I think it will out chop a nine. It out weighs the 9 by nearly 50%, 1.6lbs vs. 1.05 & it's 1/4 inch thick. All you'd need to do to make it a little better is strip it & grind that top guard off.
Not sure it will out chop one. Maybe the saber on the 9 allows for greater splitting ability? I've chopped some pieces of wood yesterday and it mostly just gets stuck, doesn't handle quick enough for chopping, at least in my opinion. Great for whacking though, like a machete. Anyway, I keep on jabbering but alas, I can't compare, and that's what would settle it
Some first thoughts on using the Swabbie:
-it is very comfortable in the hand, allows a multitude of different grips
-the texture on the handle scales is amazing, totally different than the slicker grivory from f.e. the tweeners
-sharpy sharpy McSharp! Like the curved blade, it gives a larger cutting area. The blade is very thick at the stock, but tapers down very quickly so the edge is rather thin, which makes it slice very well (not chop in wood).
-DAT POINT is very pointy. That's one of my only gripes, it just looks so fragile, you know? I'm very much afraid of breaking or bending it, so I guess I'm not swinging it at full force out of fear of breaking it... That's pretty much my only gripe.
Next to whacking 'n stuff, I think this thing would be an amazing pizza slicer.
-the guard at the bottom of the tang and handle gives you a great hold of this blade. I guess you'd have to do some crazy things to let it slip out of your hand.
