I love Spyderco but they disapointed me

The company that gives away free pocket clips also raised their prices by about 30% Nov.29th 2013. I'd rather just buy a new pocket clip.;):)

Since his argument that "everyone gives out free clips, so spyderco should" is fallacious logic, it's fair to say that it's not reasonable. When is asking for free stuff reasonable or unreasonable?

In my not so humble opinion, the "unreasonableness" of his opinion is what brought on the large number of posts that were unsympathetic to him. It's just not me, I think.

Bottom line is "entitlement" and when that always is an unreasonable expectation whatever else you may believe. You may support his right to an opinion but that doesn't make his opinion reasonable in the sense that his opinion should be the reality or that the reality fits his expectation.

Speaking of fallacious logic, you are commiting argumentum ad populum, or argument from popularity, which is a well-classified logical fallacy. And I still think it's absolutely reasonable to have an initial expectation of x service from a company when you have confirmation of x service from several of their major competitors. Now I, personally, don't believe free hardware is an industry standard, but I how is it unreasonable to draw that conclusion when you've repeatedly had it happen?

The problem is that is wasn't a conclusion. It was an attempt to apply pressure on a company to adhere to a set of rules drawn up by the OP. Not at all argumentum ad populum because I wasn't saying that my premise is true because of how many people believe it to be true. I was merely pointing out that a large number of people were unsympathetic to the OP because of the perception that something was off about his OP.

The whole "attempt to apply pressure" stance is pure mind-reading. The OP expressed his disappointment, stated that he thought they should give free clips and then asked for opinions. You have to read that pretty uncharitably to reach the conclusion that he was attempting some sort of coercion.

This is my kind of answer! I'll leave the moral and philosophical musings to my betters. :)

As solidstate pointed out, children do that and it's transparent when they do. You have look at it pretty charitably to not see that.

Let's see an OP brings up his disappointment with Spyderco's service in the belief of his opinion. He doesn't state anything more other than his disappointment. He's not raising a riot, or insinuating that Spyderco sucks, or is evil. Just that in his perception of Spyderco's Customer service, is not reality.

A "lot of people" respond unsympathetically to the OP's potentially "coercive attempts" to make Spyderco give him "free clips".
Yeah the OP is the one with fallacious logic.

Side note, apologies for the accusation of argumentum ad populum. I read you post as containing that implication, but it's very possible I just misconstrued it.

It's simply a conclusion that's not supported by the available evidence. It would be just as fair to accuse those of railing on the OP of blind support based on the compankes popularity.

Yeah, maybe it's time for me to step back and say that agreeing to disagree thing. And besides, Luis is starting to get snarky haha...
