I love the flamboyant colors of knives nowadays.

It does. I use a switchblade to pick my nails, a balisong to flip with because I'm self diagnosed with ADD and always need to fiddle with something. Things you do will get judged by people. It's a matter of what you do and how much, will equal how much judgement you get. I like flamboyant colors to begin with but I also think it contributes to how the knife can be perceived that's why I used the pictures in my OP.

I admit that I'm judging you for this comment. Criminy.

Well, aren't you lucky! Clearly you don't live in most liberal, democratic city, here cops will shoot first than go for donuts!

Get yourself a Gold membership and talk politics to your hearts content in the. Political Arena. It has no place in a discussion regarding the "flamboyant colors of knives". A little common sense goes a long way.

I like earth tones. I'm into nature, and natural colors of the earth. Black and green are my favorites, but I'll take grey and brown as well. Just seems more mellow to me. I've never associated black with anything menacing and don't understand why others do either. Seems that a lot of people are hindered by pre-existing ideas about the meaning behind certain hues. I don't like "flamboyant" colors because, well, I don't like those colors. They make a knife seem less like a tool, and more like a toy. The only reason I'd accept a bright color, such as orange, is to be able to find my tool easily in the woods if dropped.

Tl;dr I like no-nonsense colors on my no-nonsense knives.

Oh, the irony. ;):

To me, the knives on the left don't seem/feel/behave any less tool-like or any more toy-like than the knives on the right:

But to each his/her own. :)

There is a difference between the assumption that black equals tactical or association with violence, versus a pink or bright blue handle that will look like crud once I get oil, dirt and scuff marks all over it. I don't assume the colors make it a toy; I'm simply saying that it doesn't vibe well with dirt. Same reason I wouldn't buy a white car. I don't associate those colors with it being a toy, only that it makes it seem toylike in my opinion. The opposite stance seems to be that black automatically means tactical and all kinds of negative connotations. Apples to oranges.

Here is my second reply on this thread. I may be repeating myself. Oh well. :)

I agree with the one other poster above here too.

I do not associate 'colors' of black, grey, or various shades of black and grey/gray with anything evil or that it means that the knife (Or a gun for that matter!) is a 'bad or mean' tough looking knife either.

The color of the knife, style or brand does not mean jack squat to me since it is an inanimate object, tool or thing and it is a matter if the individual LIKES and enjoys using the knife or not.

Does the knife do the job that the buyer/user wants it to do when he uses it? How does it fit his or her hand? Those are important points to me plus does he or she enjoy looking at it too.

Is it a quality made knife with a good warranty?

There are some beautiful and stunning knives in fixed and folding knives all over THIS forum in various sections!

Stunning shades in one color to various colors from beautiful blues to reds to you name it!

Beautiful patterns and colors in Native American Buck knives in the Buck section too. I am drooling over some of those BUCK knives too!

Sweet shades of blue - blue is my favorite color, reds, greens, etc. in so many brands that I could not name them all. Beautiful pearl knives in various shades too. Stone, wood, other natural and modern materials are in so many of those beautiful knives too. They are wonderful to look at too.

Some fixed and folding knives may wear better than others depending on the material used for the handle, blade and the design. What is the knife being used for by the knife owner? That is an important factor too.

The 'classic little black dress', black heels, black purse and a stunning simple piece of jewelry in pearls or in any other stone or metal never went out of style in my opinion too. :)

There are some threads about red knives and blue knives in the traditional section and those are some very pretty and useful knives too!

Genuine Swiss Army Knives have some pretty styles and colors too!

Another way to perceive knives is even by names. As a civilian I don't like anything affiliated with any kind of law enforcement equipment so knives the like paramilitary spyderco don't leave me with a impression of wanting to own one. I am not a outdoors person, not a boy scout and have no affiliation to any kind of law enforcement. That knife was designed to favor the military. Make a knife called paracivilian and I'll be looking into it.

I walked into a military tactical gear shop the other day and they rubbed me the wrong way. I asked for butterflies knives and switchblades and right of the bat I could tell I was like a book being judged by its cover. They looked at my youth and my tattoos and probably wondered what kind of rebellious intentions does this youth have to want those knives. It was like the exact reason those knives have the stigma they do.

Or maybe you look like every other guy that comes into their store with zero intention of buying anything from them. I'm sure enough of youse come through that they're able to sniff 'em out swiftly and handily.

Ok guys I just came back from tactical gear store...

Almost bought a Chinese knock off of the microtech UTX 70 for $20 bucks. Was neat but a little too unpractical.

I guess I knew too much about knives to buy anything. I think the guy working there realized the same lol.

Lolololololololololol

That last part was great. And I also love the post where you said you didn't care about ten bucks but in a different one said you wouldn't spend a little extra to support a local knife shop because you didn't care if it were there tomorrow. I think you are working for the other side kid. Don't bother the nice man at the knife store to play with his balisongs anymore, he doesn't want you there.

I can't quote all of your ridiculous comments, we just moved to a new house and won't have internet for a few days but I bet I can find the ignore button on my phone.

My understanding is that you want a very low priced knock off in rainbow colors from an online website that will impress some silly little kid. Good luck with your quest and good bye.

I only been in the shop once to look at the knives and never planned on going back. Not like I'm a mall rat coming in everyday just to window shop.

I know where I will put my money.. It's not with that store. Right now its bladeplay, blade HQ or a random dude on ebay. Possibly yard sales and flea markets the whole 2nd hand market in general.
