I remember why I stopped carrying SAK's

Are you sure you aren't fooling with it in your pocket without realizing it and then you get poked ?
I've done that with one of my Bucks. I finally had to make a conscious effort to never open it part way while in my pocket. I mean I DID realize I was doing it but then didn't care for it when it would bite me.

I carry a Mini Champ in my pocket any time I leave the house and have carryed Executives a ton and never had those open. While working I carry three others in a belt pouch. Perhaps you're a belt pouch needin' kind of guy.

Here it is . . . I would pinch it open like this in my pocket then wonder why it bit me or more often than not it would dig into my pocket. Well not really . . . I knew WHY.

Trolling. Jeeesh.

This is akin to " I had my busse ash1 break in half while cutting butter, 3 times."

I just find it completely unlikely, been carrying sak's 20 years almost.

I never had the problem. I never put one in my pocket in the first place. Not my cup of tea.

Did it happen when the knives were new? Perhaps the back springs have weakened over time. Or maybe the knives just need a good cleaning.

Every time I carry these in my pockets they open up and poke or stab me. I had like 8 of these. Gave away some to family.

I could look at that knife for hours.

I've carried saks for serveral years. My father has carried them for over 30 years. Him and I have never had this happen. Know what caused the blade to open?

If the knives aren't broken, it would take a helluva confluence of events to have on open in the pocket.
I've tried to open five of mine without using the nail nick and can't do it.

So, unless there are random thread loops that hook the blade (which rides lower than the nail file) and pull it open, or a weird collection of junk in the pocket that pushes up on the nail nick, I call foul.

The only thing close in 30+ years has been the split ring preventing the scissors from closing completely and having the pointy end of the scissors exposed. The SAK is way to streamlined to catch on anything and open accidentally. My tip up Griptillian on the other hand has opened many times...

My sister sent me a picture earlier today of her Classic. She doesn't know about this thread; it's just funny timing. It had just been machine washed and dried--by accident, of course. It looked fine in the picture and it must not have opened in either machine because she made no mention of it.

My Saks often spontaneously explode open in my poket. But it is not just the blade it is all the tools at the same time. I remember the last time it happened clearly. A very pretty girl had just walked by me and boom the SAK opened up.

I think I saw that happen to you . . . you were in that movie where the kids are riding their bikes on the side walk . . . you say "Jonny naughty . . . Gary . . . nice. Then the great looking person walks by in the short skirt and you said "Veronica . . . VERY nice" and she says as she walks by "In your dreams sleigh boy". That was you right ? White beard, green jacket red shirt ? Sure.

Count me in as another one for never experiencing this! My SAKs are pretty tight, even the little SD has great retention!

Yah I was thinking yesterday that must be it. I have had the ring prevent a blade from closing and so I use that SAK with the ring removed.

OP : was that what happened ?
Or is there something more sinister at work here ?

 Don't feed them, and they will die.

This whole post has been a sham. The OP is really a shill for Leatherman, and is trying plant seeds of doubt about the quality of Victorinox. An evil plot by Leatherman, I tell ya!!!

:D

Could be but it BACKFIRED big time !
Everybody but him LOVES their Swiss Army Knives and does not have this silly problem.

For the record . . . never had a Leatherman. I have a gold plated one in my "save for later" list. I don't know why.

I am used to carry a spartan and a climber for years and it never happened to me...

I have two Leatherman multitools that sit in a drawer...I use my Vic Workchamp instead.
