Yeah, I agree. No argumentative or judgmental tone implied. And he did ask, which opens it up to opinions. But the same "no, because..." reasoning can be applied to a lot of other scenarios (like I listed) around here, and seldom are. His destroyed BWM is no less beneficial to a soldier (or anyone less fortunate) than the hundreds of shiny Busse knives that never see the light of day in a safe... but you don't see anyone suggesting those get turned over to someone who will put it to good use.

Busse, by their very price and nature are prone to gluttonous owners and frivolous uses. I'm not surprised some dude wants to blow it away with a hand cannon just because he can, any more than the guy that has 20 NMFBMLE's and has never used one of them. Both are equally heinous and wasteful crimes I can't afford. But who am I to say?

That's not entirely true...
While these safe knives that you mention may not be beneficial to anyone right now, they do serve as an investment at the very least to the person who owns them, and they will always have the potential of being beneficial as a user at any point in the future...while his BWM will most likely be scrap metal in under 1 second after he pulls the trigger...and no longer have the potential to be anything more than scrap metal from that point on unless maybe a piece is salvageable to be used as a much smaller cutting knife after some serious modding... Even if the knife survives, can it really be trusted to perform like it should for as long as it should after being hit with a .50cal projectile???

Hey, I didn't say I would do it... but he's not the first to break a Busse just because. I just said "its his knife, no guilting necessary"

Snip...

...Even if the knife survives, can it really be trusted to perform like it should for as long as it should after being hit with a .50cal projectile???

There's only one way to find out...:D.

It's not like it's all that big of a bullet.

Wait a minute, let me think about that.

quarter%20steel.JPG

1/4" thick A36 carbon steel. The two holes are 22-250 and 30-06(both lead cored, hunting rounds.)

I have also personally witnessed 458SOCOM rounds penetrating 8" sch. 40 carbon steel pipe, wall thickness .32" with no problems whatsoever. Some of the rounds even came close to making it out of the back of the pipe too. The indentation had started to break free, but the round did not completely make it through.

So yeah, you are gonna have a nice knife with a big hole in it. Good luck to you.

As to your revised OP I am sorry to hear of bad feelings. I don't think this needed to get so negative and hope that your email was not of that nature. I hope this doesn't truly drive you away. This community seems to have taken a rather abrupt turn away from it's more light hearted days. I hope it changes.

+1
Maybe the offending emailer would be less ticked off if
you shot your BWM with a smaller caliber,
like maybe 10 rounds from an AK-74
You could name your knife the Swiss Cheese Mistress :)

"corrugated bevels hell,I got the swiss cheese treatment!"

I'm kinda thinking I would like to know who it was and what was said so that person can be shunned for apparently being WAY to sensitive about a bleepin knife! One that's not even theirs for that matter

Like I said, I have seen a katana survive multiple hits edge on from a .50 cal machine gun.

I really think your problem is going to even hitting the edge.

If you are shooting from the side, and actually trying to punch a hole, I would place odds even money that you could probably accomplish the side punch hole with a 5.56 round. For sure with a .308, or a 30-06. If you are asking for edge on it might survive a hit.

If you are talking flat, it will not even notice.

Don't let a meannie in an email chase you off.

Well, that stinks cause I had a wonderful deal for you ....

I was going to trade you my Die hard Hog ash 1 and give that .50cal a run for its money;):D

Hey B, one thing I have learned, even the hardway.....you cant please everyone here.

Nor should you try.

Now, lets just pour a drink and start talking about the range to the target;):D

Are you trying to make the Ultimate Chuck Birthday Knife?!?:thumbup::cool:

By the way, was this the prototype for the BWM?

give the knife an equal try and see if it can hack through your 50CAL! yea! Do it! hack through your 50CAL! Then if it works then shoot the Blade! Please film all of it I really want to see it!

RickJ

Do us a favor and make a test out of it.

I'd like to see comparison shots of the following on the same blade:

5.56
7.62x39
.308
.338
.50

Well this was an interesting thread to stumble across. Don't know what kinda guilt trip message you recieved but IMO, the knife is yours, do as you please. You asked for opinions and opinions are what you got. So brush them off, load your rifle, and fire that bullet down range before we live in a socialist society that actually forces you to give that knife to one of the "have nots." Remember, you're shooting a Busse, not a Bible.
