I think the ZT 0888 Max is about to ship - the 0454 is also about to ship

MEH, i am not that impressed. For some reason, I thought the MAX was going to look just like the original but just with a DLC coating. This almost looks like a completely different knife and no where near as nice for the prices people are asking.

For as much huff and fuss the 0888M390 and MAX made, they sure do not look like $1000+ knives to me, which is what people will probably have to pay to actually get one.

I agree 100% with other posters that the 0600 is an amazing knife that for whatever reason didn't take off as much as other LEs did. I love the size, shape, feel, and overall quality of the knife and am not afraid to use it. It is also such a fun flipper that it probably has the most pocket time out of every knife i own. I actually like the fact i can find it on the 2nd hand market for a decent price since i am thinking of picking up another, just to have encase i use my other too much.
 
I just received the ZT0888MAX & M390, VERY VERY nice, the MAX is a huge step above the M390, it is as good as many custom flippers I own, don't get the wrong idea on the M390, it is a very nice knife. I'm sure there are a lot of behind the scene stories about the challenges in building these knives. ZT should be very proud of the finished product.

I want one 888. Doesn't matter the version. But I not paying four figures. I never seen one for sale yet.

Thanks. The knife actually looks better in person than in pictures. I wasn't sure that I was going to like it because of the black-on-black look, but it is really a sweet knife. Very happy with it. :)

Good luck finding your 0888max. They are popping up here & there. :thumbup:

I pre-ordered a 0888max during the Paleolithic era and they just charged my card yesterday for an m390 in its place, citing the Maxamet steel as inferior.

They said ZT finished the run in m390 because they could not get the heat treat right on the Maxamet, and thus I'd be receiving an m390 model. Seems a little strange if the reported build numbers are accurate since they made almost the same number in Max as m390 and the max was what I pre-ordered. Then again, no one pre-ordered an m390 as it was not available. Overall it makes sense, but makes me even more curious about how the Maxamet steel might perform.

888 production numbers for each variation:

0888S110V: 212-216

0888M390: 130-150

0888Maxamet: 120

They couldn't finish the Max run because they were having issues with the blades warping.

I seriously doubt theirs anything wrong with the Max version, they are just telling you that to ease the pain of not getting the rarest one.

I think if I was going to get one to actually use I think I'd want the M390 version.

I curse KAI everyday for making that divine piece of engineering a limited run. It's quite simply the most beautiful folder ever created and if only the law would allow it I would divorce my wife and marry a ZT0888.:D

Edit: the original edition that is, not this coated MAX crap, whoever thought of that should put in jail.

Every body hating on the DLC. I like it. I want a maxmet, really just to see how well it prefroms. But since I would carry it and use it. The dlc would be tougher and show less wear than the shiny one. I've already scratch my 801cf when making a light box and cutting up card board. I've used my 777 black more and shows less signs of wear.
