I think the ZT 0888 Max is about to ship - the 0454 is also about to ship

Sweetness!

The above picture is a ZT0888MAX with a ZT0801CF. This is the best I have been able to capture the copperhead coating color - on my laptop display this picture looks VERY close to the actual beauty of the actual knife. The 888 speaks for itself!

Very nice. Of the limited ZTs I don't yet own, the 0801CF is definitely on my buy list (along with a 0560CBCF and a 0600BLK).

So, who's going to be the first to actually use their MAX?

Or are they all going to be safe queens?

Would be interesting to start keeping tabs on the serial numbers to how many Blade Forumers got one.

Received my 0888M390 with the 0888MAX still eluding me! Fortunately, I have two of the composite blade 0888 ones for 0888MAX trade bait! The 0888M390 has a gripper texture but it's also more of a fingerprint magnet. From what I've seen 0888 still looks the sharpest both up close and at a distance. I think it really shows off the superb milling on the titanium handles and up close the composite lines.

I am so glad Spyderco is making the K2 a regular production run. Yeah, it doesn't have the "ZT" aesthetics, but man alive I wish KAI would just put Maxamet in a leek or something.

No denying the fact that production knife manufacturers should be highly commended to try out new designs, technologies, manufacturing techniques and raw materials including composites -- sometimes suffering at the bleeding edge of technology.

Steels like Maxamet, CPM-10V, CPM-S125V, etc. plus materials like titanium and carbon fiber including composites therein. Many examples come from the aerospace industry.

So you got a max? Very cool! Congrats. :)

Hopefully if all goes well I will have one soon enough as well...that I will use. How else will I know how the maxamet performs otherwise? To those that have one already do you mind commenting on the degree of sharpness you have seen so far?

I would like to see what the market value of the max is going to be once it levels out. I really want to carry mine with some very light use. But don't want to just ruin the value of one of the rarest production knives produced. Especially since I paid a premium for it.

I will carry and use mine.... eventually. I have no intentions of selling the Max, since it will be part of a complete 0888 set. It will go to my kids one day.

When I do carry/use the Max, it won't see "hard" use if I can help it - probably just cutting light stuff, cutting a steak at a restaurant, etc. I have plenty of other quality knives that I can beat on that are readily replaceable if need be. I am hoping Spyderco will come out with a Mule in maxamet, and heat treated to a similar Rockwell hardness - I would certainly beat on a Max Mule.

I got an 0888 and an 0888MAX. I prefer the 0888 but glad I picked the MAX on the secondary market. Paid a premium for it but that's fine because it will stay in my collection. I would think the MAX will consistently fetch $1000?

Crazy amounts of money for a knife like this. Really wish ZT would do an 880 in the same way they made the 770 for the 777. Only I hope they do a better job at it, the 770 doesn't even begin to compare to the 777. Maybe scale down the size, go with a S30V or similar blade steel (no composite). Keep the handle shape but not the machining pattern (I'm sure that takes a lot of time and $$). Keep the sleek lines and overall sexiness that is the 888.

If they do this, I hope they keep some aspects like the KVT, full Ti handles, steel lockbar insert, and the unique pocket clip. You're right that the 770 doesn't even begin to compare to the 777! Keeping the majority of the design and details, but getting rid of the expensive materials and machine time might put the price of the knife in the range of the 056x series.
