I want to believe - Survive! Speculations! Get it here!

I would imagine that most CPM steels would be too expensive for the SK line. I wonder if regular 154CM is, though.

Here is a thought: what if Guy made SK knives in O1 or 1095. It would make a lot of folks who like his knives, but want a simpler carbon steel happy. I don't know if there are enough of them out there or if the steel would be inexpensive enough to justify the effort, though. It would also put him in direct competition with a lot of the big boys.

It occurs to me that, if he could keep his current business model of top-quality knives but using 1095 or O1 and offering them for less than comparable knives from other companies, we might never see the high end stuff because they would be so busy with orders for the low end stuff. [emoji50]

As fun as this is, this thread has made me realize something kind of serious and cool. Whatever Guy and Ellie do with product development, I know that the only products that will make it to the market will be high quality well designed. Survive! is really a rare company that is in a cool place in its lifecycle and I'm really excited to be a customer (dare I say stakeholder).

Now, let's talk more about the new Survive! Sword made with Unobtanium steel and designer by Martian warriors.

If we are voting, I DO NOT want to see a Survive! with o1 or 1095. There are a lot of folks doing that already. I hope S!K sticks to "super" steels.

Right, there are lots of options for low alloy steel knives. I think that if they dropped into that market they would lose a lot of what distinguishes them from the rest of the pack.

Great discussion, boys!

There are a lot of options with well established companies that make nearly indestructible 1095 blades. I think Guy had a great idea with the SK line. He offered a great steel not used by a lot of companies, and I think almost more importantly, limited the options. 3 or 4 handle colors and the same for sheaths. Clearly (very clearly) Guy is all about the customer satisfaction so he gives a lot of options for GSO's. If you look at those other, big 1095 companies, you get one handle color and no options. For the manufacturer, and with the SK line I imagine it would be easier to order 1,000 black micarta handles and 1,000 natural micarta handles instead of 200 of this color and 75 of that color and 50 of the same color in linen and G10.

For now I feel pretty content with my GSO orders that I've made, but I know when the SK's start flowing at a lower cost, I'll be in the mood for more shopping.

Speculation is fun, but when I first found out about Guy and Survive on Equip2endure way back when, it was the fine-quality knife using a super-steel with micarta handles and kydex sheath at an awesome price that grabbed my attention. [emoji6] It is still that which makes my mouth water. Speaking of which, as soon as I finish eating, there is this unassuming little box from Idaho that is waiting for me to open. [emoji4]

What?!!?! If I had a package from Idaho waiting for me I'd put food, the internet, social norms and most state laws on hold until that blade was in my hands :D

I agree. I think a 4.1 style knife in 1095 or O1 with a squared off spine would be a hit. Offer it up with black, green, and natural canvas scales and orange G10 to keep it simple. I'd even leave the blades uncoated and add a disclaimer about rust.
It's always a big gamble though because we all know there are idiots out there that'll intentionally break a knife just to abuse a warranty.

Could it be a pretty new 5???

I wanted to be able to devote the fullness of my attention to my new acquisition so I addressed my hunger first.

Ah, the enjoyment of a new blade in the hand. What can I say about the GSO 5.0? I do believe that it is just the right tool for the job of being my go-to fixed blade. It fits the hand and the blade is the just right length. I can't wait to get it in the field. I would post pics, but I have yet to get around to opening a pic account somewhere.

Can't wait to see em when you do!

I understand many people make o1 and 1095
The gso line is the one with fancy steel
The sk line was supposed to be lower cost
Since the manufacturing prices would be similar for both Guy would have to save on materials
1095 is pretty cheap but a decent choice

Maybe I have missed it being mentioned, but the kitchen knives have been spoken about. Not that my necker can't "cut" it but I'd love to see these.

Great pics! You have amazing taste. Not only did I myself go with black on black for my 5, but I also have a Citizen watch. It's like we're the same person :p

I'd love a Survive! Kitchen Knife, but have Guy or Ellie really mentioned it or was it just us fan boys brainstorming/dreaming in one of the threads here?
