I want to believe - Survive! Speculations! Get it here!

I thought I remember reading Guy mentioning kitchen knives somewhere at some point. They might be behind the S! hatchet and machete that were mentioned only as a hypothetical design somewhere between Guy's imagination and the drawing board.

I'd love a Survive! Kitchen Knife, but have Guy or Ellie really mentioned it or was it just us fan boys brainstorming/dreaming in one of the threads here?

SURVIVE!
I hear you. They aren't exactly "outdoor" knives but I am brainstorming some kitchen knives, a few of which should be able to fill the roles you're describing. While they'll be labeled a "kitchen" knife, they'll still be durable enough to handle some camp chores as well as skinning and food prep tasks

Guy spoke of this in the 4.5 bushcraft thread.

Legend has it that the old pioneers, fur trappers, and mountain men carried butcher knives. The cycle could come full circle if modern outdoorsy folks started carrying survival kitchen knives.

When are the new t-shirts coming? And will the folder prototype be released before the end of the year? Time will tell....

I almost forgot about the shirts. I'm really looking forward to the folder. There is so many speculations about what it will be. I hope we do see something on it in the near future.

Another piece of the puzzle. Here is a direct copy and paste from instagram.

Instagramuser@surviveknives so what's the deal with 4.7's with CPM 154? I got one in 20cv but I prefer the slight toughness advantage of cpm 154.

surviveknives@instagramuser I picked up a couple sheets of the CPM-154 as a material experiment. I just bought them on a whim because the material was available and decided to work them into this run. They will be available for sale but I won't be doing any blade swaps because there aren't many of them. We've really gotten the 20CV heat treat dialed in, I don't believe you'll be disappointed.

So... I poked around the interwebs a little bit and tried to tune into what passes for common knowledge about cpm 154 and 20cv. Based on everything I read and what I know of Guy, his attention to detail and commitment to consistently improve his product, I cannot see cmp 154 being anything more than a lateral move from 20cv. Others in this forum are WAY more educated about steels than me, and I will be more than happy to differ to their greater knowledge if they speak up.

CPM154 makes for a pretty nice user steel. I know that it doesn't have the abrasion resistance of 20CV or the other vanadium containing alloys, but for my uses that isn't really a problem.
I'm generally not going to cut cardboard with a knife as thick as a field knife. I suppose that if you were field dressing large animals the extra abrasion resistance might help.
If Survive! were to offer a knife in CPM154 I wouldn't have any reservations about buying one if it otherwise suited my needs.

Guy has stated that with the SK line the lower material cost does not reduce the price of the knife that much because all of the other costs in the knife (grinding, tumbling, shaping, etc.) remain the same. For my money, I'll stick to the S! line.

Yes, I agree. I'd really like a SK for the S7 steel, but i think the S! Line already has amazing value, so I wouldn't buy it only because it's "cheap". The there are better options, like a $9 Mora Bushcraft knife for example ;)

I didn't know if this was true or not but I heard a rumor Guy grew and used his majestic beard just to strop his blades ridiculously scary sharp. Its just speculation I believe. ;)

This does sound familiar. Thanks for reminding me of the reasoning.

The value of Moras are hard to beat, but so would a brand new S! knife at $150 :)

If Guy offered SK's in a size I liked but wast ready to spend hundreds of dollars on, I'd definitely Jump at an SK.

Hahahahahaha :D

With the last run, the savings in the SK lines came directly from labor costs. The GSO line is time consuming because we look at each order one at a time, several times in the process. We have to put together a count of how many CPM-3V with ferro notch or without ferro notch, then CPM-20CV, and then throw in Factory 2nds just to keep everyone on their toes. Christian has to look at a sharpened knife and then find the first order that matches, then find the right handle for the order. Once he has the knives built, I do a final individual QC which includes checking the knife against the order specifications.

SK series blades get a QC and then it is just a matter of: here is a stack of blades and there is a stack of handles. There are no ferro notches or bow drill divots to do, no matching up order with knife.

We have some ideas/plans for the SK series (and kitchen options). But the first step is getting the GSO production moving.

I am very excited about the "kitchen series" as much as i love my outdoor knives, i frankly use my kitchen knives the most...

I'm telling you all, my 3.5 works great as a kitchen knife. It slices a hole in the cellophane on my microwave dinner better than any knife I own.

So... Since our friend Guy is such a tease, especially on Instagram, and we've already got a round-up thread for the production schedule, this is the thread where we pick the rumors to pieces... But please, only quote legitimate sources. ;)

What is known so far?

- there is a folder "coming soon" in 20cv and 90v? [source todo]

- the 4.7 is coming in Cpm-154 AND A MYSTERY MATERIAL?!!?? **

- Guy is working on new handle colors proprietary to Survive!

- the scandi grind was last seen at Area 51 and was apparently put under lock-down because it was so sharp it could split atoms ;)

What have I missed?

** "@surviveknives Maybe... lol It is CPM-154CM but yes, there are a few stacks in this upcoming batch [the 4.7]. There is another surprise material as well, that I don't believe is visible in the photo"

What are our thoughts on the "surprise material"???
