I wondered when someone was going to rip us off...

That blows

While I am giving them hell publicly, I think it's comical as hell. Someone has to rip off a RAT design just to try to make a sale. Again, you never have to worry about them becoming too smart.....

But yes, it is rip-off, my wifes says it is a wonder it did not come from Nigeria instead.

But they're a poor starving people that don't have enough sense to plant instead of eating the seed stock.

6.29 inches OAL and .157 inches thick, they really did just trace the Izula :thumbdn:

I am really sorry to hear about this, Jeff. Many people have no integrity at all and are more than willing to make a buck off someone else's work.

I wrote a report in grad school about the post-apartheid economy of South Africa. One of the greatest problems they had there, regarding any company wanting to do business, was how quickly the other companies in the area ripped off designs. There was an article I remember about a company that made ball point pens. Every time they came out with a new pen design it was only a week or so until it was copied. They actually copied the name and packaging. It wasn't just the design, but actually stole the identity of the product.

So, are you going to pursue action on them? What is the trade-off in spending the money on lawyers and the loss of revenue?

Nope. Not going to pursue any action against them. In fact, I wish them the best of luck with their business. Anyone who is so stupid that they have to steal Intellectual Property probably needs it worse than I do. Anyone can steal a design, but they will never, ever, have a lease on our minds and be able to do what we can do. We will beat them every turn in the road because we are simply smarter and we're HONEST (With the last word being the most important of our business). That, in itself, is payment enough for all the theft. Hell, look at all the people that ripped off Ken Onion's assisted opening, flipper, etc.

This is South African. Amazes me when someone doesn't have enough brain power to come up with their own unique stuff and have to steal others. But you know, in many ways, that's why I never really worry that the United States ever losing its status as a super power. ;)

As a South African and a member of the South African Knifemakers Guild it really upsets me when I see something like this. To rip off your design so blatantly is simply wrong:confused:
South Africa has produced some amazing knife innovators (Chris Reeve to name one) and although most makers are influenced by other design's such as Loveless or Walker, blatant plagarism is simply not to be tolerated.

His name is Anton de Beer and I am happy to say that he is not a member of the SA Guild.

All I can say is I will never buy anything he makes.........

Appreciate the post, Steven. Yep your fellow countryman is a weasel but the world needs a few vermin since they typically draw (and feed on) bottom feeders anyway. The customers that would buy from him are probably not folks we would want buying a RC knife anyway. So, Brother Anton is serving a purpose here.

E-mail sent

This is what I wrote

You have riped off the Rat Izula, you sad gits, Have some decency and withdraw that from sale, then go and design your own knife,

You sould hang your heads in shame

Yours

An Izula owner

I fired off an email to the dirty bastards as well. I must say though, that the copying of the Izula really doesn't surprise me. In fact, I knew it was only a matter of time before it popped up somewhere under another name.

I don't know why they just didn't call it the Izula. Should have since they stole everything else :D

It looks to me that they have ripped off other famous designs as well including those of Chris Reeve in the Tactical section of their site.

Man that sure is a fresh new innovative design that they've designed, you know because they designed it.

When I get back from class I'll be sure to send off an email to these Einsteins.

Ya, only call it the "Isula".

I don't know why they just didn't call it the Izula. Should have since they stole everything else :D

How about the IzulO... To represent the useless hole behind the blade. Or maybe the Izu-hole would be more appropriate. What a bunch o' douche bags.

Jeff be sure to lets us know when someone tries to return one of "those" under the RAT warrantee.

I can see it now, 1/2" of the tip will be missing and the hole will be filled in with bondo...

Classy. :thumbdn: I doubt that the steel is going to match up to Rowen's 1095, gonna be bs if someone actually mistakes it for a RC product.:grumpy:
