I am ashamed to see a SA company stooping this low. Anton de Beer is surely a Boertjie and I expected beter moral ethics from him. That said .....the general knife buying public in SA doesn't know RAT or Izula so it is likely that all the e-mails will do little but flood his inbox. Insults will not work as I can asure you that as I know Boertjies, they are pig headed mules.

So in this light, having a semi-tame lawyer available, with your instructions, I would he happy to let him adress a letter to Mr. de Beer that, pending his withdrawal of the knife and a public apology to RAT cutlery, he will see his @ss in court. What can I say .... he has a way with words.

I saw this knife in bow hunting magazine today and thought I was going to blow the whisle, but looks like I was beaten. The magazine praised the knife. Who wants to educate the editor? here is the email: editor at africasbowhunter.co.za

I think it is worth file to let him know about it. I am going to write one.

On another note. TAC's makers are not part of our knife makers guild (or one could have taken the matter up through them) so please do not write off all the makers from out country.

Aubrey, appreciate the offer, brother. He may pull the knife according to his responses but the main thing is he knows we know. I have been expecting knock-offs to come forward so this doesn't surprise me. Some of the knock-offs of TOPS knives are actually engraving TOPS on the knife, so this is sort of a "tame" knock-off.

BTW: Appreciate all the emails yall have sent. Sometimes public pressure is a good thing. Much thanks!.

It's not cool that they are ripping off the Izula and other knives. Looks like there are some Chris Reeves knives being ripped off and some of the blades look heavally influanced by Strider knives. The fit and finish of their knives looks good, it's to bad they have to copy others work.

As for the hole in the handle, looks like it's there to aid in lashing the knife to a staff or for attaching a handle. BTW The H*E*S*T has 3 small holes. One of which is in the same place as the one on their Ripoff Izula.

Well I didn't hear back from my first email and since these guys seem to like copying things, I went ahead and sent a copy of my email (with some slight differences, of course). ;)

Please cease emailing Anton. He sent a long apology to RAT Cutlery last night. I don't want to post his email up since we believe it to be sincere and no sense in airing it here, but it appears someone asked him to make this design and he did not know it was RAT Cutlery's Izula. Anyway, he manned up and sent us an apology and long email concerning this. That, in itself, speaks volumes to me.

We appreciate all of you emailing. We are going to email Anton back and tell him he has our blessings to continue to make the Gecko since he came clean with us.

Again, thanks for all of you getting involved with this.

And (uhm, my English fails me somehow, this might sound clumsy) it is good of him to contact RatCutlery directly with his apology, and sending all others short replies.
The fact that he adressed the right one there really does speak for itself.

Cool. It just shows what can be accomplished by putting a little pressure on someone with a simple little thing like 200 e-mails:D. Glad the e-mails helped.
