RJ Martin makes a damn fine knife and I would say his level of fit and finish exceeds those of production companies. His knives also don't say "Idaho Made" sometimes.

I'm not personally into flippers and such, but how easy is it to get one of RJ Martin's knives in comparison to a CRK? Most of the knives people like to compare to CRKs in terms of F&F are nowhere near as easy to come by, nor are they easy to get at the same price point.

Again, this is the best question and the one I'd like to see answered by everyone.

It has. Sum the people who will purchase knives with it and people who won't purchase knives with it.

You are correct, but the people who said they would purchase a knife with a stamp don't have a choice. They're just saying that the stamp wouldn't prevent them from buying.

Let me change the question a bit. If you walked into a store today and there were two Sebs, exactly the same, same price, but one was stamped and the other wasn't, which one would you purchase? Or if you ordered directly from CRK and they asked, "Stamp or no stamp?" - what would everyone's choice be?

The question isn't which would you prefer – that's preference. That's like asking if I would prefer blue or silver lugs.

The question is: Is this stamp so offensive that you won't buy knives with it, or CRK at all.

To answer your question, I would take the Idaho Made one. I have plenty of Sebenza's without it, why not try something new?

I suppose it doesn't matter how you ask the question, it still boils down to, do you want it on your knife or not.

This issue reminds me of the manufacturer emblems on vehicles. Don't care to have Dodge, Ford, GMC, Honda, Toyota, Nissan, etc. crap on my autos, but it beats walking. :D

Does anyone know if the Sebenza 21 with the more aggressive champfer in front of the pivot pin and the IM stamped models discussed here are one and the same. According to a dealer site the Classic 21 will no longer be an available model. This dealer also has a large Sebenza 21 with camphor inlays and a swedge. This has an IM stamp. The swedge really enhances this particular knife. I don't know if I can list the dealer. Mods, please advise. Regards, Jim

List the dealer, that's not deal spotting. They brought the swedge back? That's cool.

Josh, That's the one. Thanks for the feedback. It is a pretty knife. I wasn't sure if I would like a swedge on CRK's blades but the photo made me a convert. Swedge or no swedge. Jim

I love the look of the swedge, but I'm spending too much money on CRK's to pick up one now. :(

I just picked up a large Sebenza from New Graham that does not have the stamp. I would have to say that if I had the choice of stamped or not I would choose not. However if the knife I ordered two days ago DID have the stamp( I had no idea when I bought it ) I wouldn't have hated it either.

Wow - been away for a while - just seeing this.

Not sure how to feel - I am definately in the camp with those that need to be moved by the appearance of the knife as well as the materials and craftsmanship before purchasing. Not really feeling it with the new logo engraved on the knife.

I do hope we hear from Chris on this - I would love to know what the motivation was.

I just picked up a large sebenza over the summer - kinda glad I did.

I was really looking forward to his conversion to S35V in the folders - this takes a little wind out of the sails.

Darn, I've been shopping for an hour, trying to find one that's not stamped. Sent out some emails to sites that were closed. If I don't have any luck, I'll be headed for fleaBay next. :(

Maybe one will turn up. A lot of dealers were closed when I sent my email. I'm hoping for a cleaner version. I know the quality is there. I don't come from Idaho and don't like the stamp - which is my right. I hope Chris changes hi mind based on this thread. ;)

You probably haven't caught up on your reading yet if you've been away.
Thank you for all your sometimes passionate oppinions. But I can not please everybody all of the time. It is there for a reason that is important and is not going away.So calm down and be happy.
I apologize if I offended anyone – that was not my intent.

Chris Reeve Knives is, and always has been, a different company. When I introduced the Sebenza in 1988 while we were still in South Africa, I was told by some people that the mechanism was great but the knife was ugly. But it broke new ground; we have won many awards because it grew on people and more and more people liked it.

I am the one who is responsible for the wording and the placement. I did it to be different and to be noticeable because (1) I am proud that our knives are made, not only in the United States but in the beautiful State of Idaho and (2) we are one of the few knife companies left that are completely USA made, and with US materials.

We have produced a couple hundred handles in various models that need to be assembled and sold. Suggestions of where “Idaho Made” should be positioned will be considered. It is important that this should be engraved to safeguard the integrity of your knives going forward. There are many Chinese knockoffs, the quality of which is improving all the time.

We appreciate your interest in our knives but you must realize that we are human too!

Chris

Thanks for that info Teacher - I am trying to catch up on all that I have missed since being away from the forum for several months or more.

Did you try New Graham? The one I picked up from there last week had no stamp.
