That brings a couple of questions to my mind.....

1. I wonder what percentage of the total CRK customer base is actually active on this forum?

2. I also wonder just how valuable most of the feedback that comes from this forum really is??.....

My thoughts would be as follows.

1. Small percentage.
2. Not very, in the big scheme of things.

I would agree with #1 - There are perhaps a hundred people that regularly contribute here, yet CR sells thousands of knives worldwide each year.

For #2, I would disagree to the extent that from my experience, the Reeves do listen to consumer sentiments; however, history tells us that they do not rely on it exclusively for their business decisions (i.e. the Regular).

The most perplexing question for me is that in the era of cutting costs and streamlined production processes, CR would introduce this new element that doesn't create any obvious value. It adds time, and thus money, to the manufacturing of each knife. This must be something that Chris truly wants and believes in with this heart, and that may be the final deciding factor here.

NOTE: When I said the above, I in no way meant that CRK did not listen.

I think they listen far more than I would want to and far more than many, if not most; other companies.

It is just that "most" consumer feedback is based on some personal preference unrelated to the big picture of the marketing of an item, IMO anyway. ;)
That is why I said, "not very". My answer would be "not very" .... no matter the company being discussed. :)

Chris Reeve Knives and the phrase cost cutting do not go hand in hand. Its the same as Randall Made they rather make 1,000 perfect knives a year than 100,000 half baked ones. And im sure with their equipment it takes about 2 sec

What's with all the trolls and semantic debaters on this thread?

We are talking about a MADE IN IDAHO stamp, on a knife.

This has got to be the most ridiculous thread of all time as far as replies go. I think I'll come back to the CRK forum in a couple days, once people start discussing things that actually matter, like how to hide new CRK knives from spouses.

One great thing about this thread...

...I just got off the phone with Neil at TNK and now have a silver double lug plain 21 shipping in the morning:thumbup:

I'm 50 today, and knew I couldn't make it through the day without buying myself a present:p

Good for you.... I live in Ga. too.... the rain was crazy this morning .... I like the silver thumb lugs better too. Not only for looks, but because the color never fades :D...

Happy birthday man! I know you will enjoy your present.:)

Thanks. I'm in NW GA, and I have never seen it rain any harder than it did in the early AM!

Yep, I've been eye balling TNK's silver double lug version for a while now. I don't need much to justify a knife purchase, so this thread and my birthday is all it took, lol.

 .. Yep, I live in NE AL and we were on the west side of it for the most part.... we got some good rain but nothing too bad. I could tell by the radar though that those east of us were getting hammered.....

Happy Birthday!!!! :)

I'm about 30 miles from the state line. It didn't last long, but it was one heck of a rain. Had strong wind also, and picked up alot of limbs this morning

People can't express an opinion? Come on now.

What I wouldn't give to live in a place like that!

As far as the Idaho Made marking....at first I didn't like it. But after some thought I figured it doesn't bother me much. Would I prefer it without? Yes I would, I much rather have the Sebenza plain and simple like they have always been. This wouldn't stop me from buying one. As a matter of fact it would actually encourage me to use it even more for some reason.

It's very hard to get it to show up. Especially since the Lockside is new and the lines aren't worn and show up well yet

And here is an rough, exaggerated drawing

Back to the topic at hand. I don't really mind it (new stamp), but it if "Idaho Made" has to be on that same spot then make it right side up like someone else said already.

I really hate to bump this back up again, but I have a 21 in my hand now and I think I see what you mean.

I believe it's more of an optical illusion that they are not aligned. If you look at the knife from the side (flat on a table with the CRK logo on top) you'll notice that the chamfer line isn't straight, but angled slightly forward. Flip the knife over and you'll see the same thing. Viewing the knife front on (to see both chamfer lines) you're eyes focus differently on each line, making them appear out of sync. Close one eye and it should go away.

Ditto

I just got this one and it's clean. After looking at the knife in person, I know I'd rather not have the IM on the handle. It's just too clean of a design to break up the flow with a big IDAHO MADE. it wouldn't ruin the knife for me, but still just as soon have it plain, thank you!

Personally I don't think it's aesthetically appealing on the sebenza. The placement on the umnumzaan was more tastefully done. So if I had a choice the sterile is definitely my preference.

However it's not that big a deal for me, and I'll still probably end up buying an umnumzaan sometime in the future. My user sebbie will hopefully last me a long long time.
