If I have no money for a Busse and if A2 sucks? What options for a survival knife?

I'd recommend a Lightsaber.
The survival blade of a Jedi Knight. Not as clumsy or random as 1095 blade; an elegant tool for a more civilized age. For over a thousand generations, the Jedi Knights were the guardians of peace and justice in the Old Republic. Before the dark times... *cough*

Rarely, indeed, have truer (or more prophetic) words been written.

What if this happens?

I hammered my Izula into a log multiple times until the log split, then hammered it into the long cross wise to get the length I wanted... with a HAMMER. The knife's spine is only slightly dented.

1095 is tough ish, don't be a b_sh. :D

And I got my DSSF for $280 shipped, but it's a bit big...

ikuyadas, that's abuse! a knife wasn't designed to do that! you're only allowed to do a slow back and forth cutting motion without applying any pressure!

Maybe get a small prybar lol. Your knives would last longer. I dont see how you would break lets say an RC ( ESEE ) 6 any other way except prying.

wow, that tm is a pos.

For $250 (less for used, still have a transferable lifetime guarantee if not heavily modded) go find yourself a new SY dogfather or SWKW battle rat. If you dont love it or you can find a way to break it, hit me up and Ill buy it off ya.

^I threw that knife SOOOO many times like a mad man and it took it. Missed my target a many times, hit fire hydrants, the street, rocks, nails, you name it. Batoned with it 10x more mindlessly then the guy above. Never once did I ever think it would fail me.

I didn't read all of the thread but here's some good big blades by our buddy NutnFancy with some chopping & different knives. I like my Junglas better than my Busse BWM fwiw the BWM came almost unsharpened, no sheath and a high price tag. The ESEE Junglas 1095 is like a razor. I've done tons of chopping with it theis past summer and it's only needed stropping. ;)

Yeah, what he said. Anything by Scrapyard made from SR-77 will be way up near the upper end of toughness.

PS I tried to contact you privately but you don't have your email activated.

I have yet to hear what the OP does with his knives or wishes to do with them...

As has been said, A2, 1095, 5160, 01 and many others are all great- or at least much more than adequate steels when heat treated properly and used in a well designed knife. I can understand your search for as close to an indestructable knife as you can afford- and I'm kind of surprised at the hostility you're getting since so many before have been on the same search. I'll put it down to your attacking some perfectly good knives and steels without doing the proper research and the attitude in some of your responses.

IMO, you're right not trust Cold Steel- those right angles are a deal breaker for me. There are many, many trusted manufacturers and makers in your price range and lower, and as mentioned there are even Busses you could afford. If you really want to learn about knives, you've come to the right place and you have some really enjoyable months ahead of you. If you just want a knife you can afford, trust and use how you will, get a Swamp Rat Ratmandu. Or a Fehrman. Or an ESEE. Or a .... They all make knives that you can't possibly break without trying really hard to on purpose.

Where making a decision really gets hard is finding the nearly indestructible survival knife that is the best choice for what you expect to do with it- how thick, how long, does it fit your hand (and can you use it all day?), where do you want it to balance? Are you willing to trade weight and cutting ability for the extra thickness? Do you really need to?

Your problem isn't finding a knife thats tough enough- it's that there are too many of them!

If you seek toughness over anything else it looks like S7 (aka SR-77) is what you're after, However I'd put no stock in knife"tests".

Kinda amazed no one mentioned Fallkniven yet. A2 and A1 are the bigger models. Awesome steel (VG-10) with a laminated blade.

Hi

I just saw Noss4 test of Bark River Bravo1 in A2.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TEABRcTeIE0&feature=related
This thread is not about how Noss4 tests are abuse or good tests.
This Thread is not About Bark river marketing strategies and the sort.

This is about A2 as a survival (not bushcraft) knife blade and if there alternatives for those who cant afford Infi on a Busse.
I don't like 1095 because I have seen it break easily in tests.
3V is as expensive as Infi (almost) and not available on production knives.

Any ideas?

Thank you guys
