If you could only own 3 knives for the rest of your life...

Only three?

Well ok . . .these are like wishes from a Genie in a bottle wishes right?

My EDC would be a Leatherman Wave for sure. That is my current EDC.

A pocket folder: A Chris Reeve large Sebenza 31 in Magnicut.

A fixed blade "belt knife": I could go one of several ways here. . . .
A classic K-Bar, the modern version in 2D. Or a CRK Pacific (or Green Beret " would be another choice in a big knife.
A third choice here might be something smaller; something in the 4" range. CRK makes a light one called "Backpacker" but something else . . . like a Loveless style drop point hunter clone . . . could work too.

I have not read all 13 pages (so far) of this thread, so I may be way off base here. So I would ask those of you who have, to name makers or knives that you think are missing . . .Makers such as Buck and Randall seem to be missing by my sparse reading . . .are there others?

The question on the floor is "If you could only own three knives for the rest of your life".

You can either read the replies to get an idea of the opinions of other members or not...but the point isn't to simply compile a list of makers.

If Randall and Buck are on "your" list, fine. If they (or others) are missing, then they haven't been selected by the respondents.

Good points.

I was looking at the responses (I have read many, but not all) as a sort of aficionado poll. Randall and Buck are both quality makers with large and loyal followings. It struck me that they were, along with others, not among the chosen even though this is a multi-page thread with several hundred responses. My post on this is intended to be just an observation or a statement of my perhaps flawed perception.

Simply put because they were not selected as the (only 3 for the rest of your life) by most participants.

A.G.Russell Gents Hunter stag fixed blade, Queen Dan Burke Cattle Knife and Boker W.C. Davis Hunter II. The Gents Hunter is a 6-3/4" stag handled fixed blade in a Loveless style, the Queen is a jumbo equal end slipjoint 3 blade with BG42 steel and stainless frame and the Boker is a single bladed slipjoint stainless framed green canvas micarta N690 blade drop point the same size as the fixed blade. I prefer traditional style knives, like stainless and if selecting only three out of what I've got these would last the rest of my life.

Does this include kitchen knives?

1. 8" chef knife. Artisan 210mm gyutp with SRS-15 core
2. LG Sebenza snakewood inlay
3. 4.5" blade fixed hunting knife.

I can do the small kitchen tasks with the Sebenza and I can do enough with the hunting fixed to get by without other meat processing knives. I'll make the blade a little bigger to help with deboning and other stuff.

Skipping the kitchen knife and looking at what I own today.

1. Sebenza
2. Hunting fixed
3. GEC 44 gunstock in cocobolo

Adding a slip joint as a food knife but a second locking folder is probably a better choice. I just need one in the lineup to represent the slip joints.

I'll get some photos later on.

The two middle knives are an either/or type situation. I like clip point blades but the Bowie style doesnt hold an edge like the drop point option. So I would possibly re-make the Bowie blade in a higher end steel and some fancy stabilized burl if it was to be my only fixed blade for life.
