If you had to take one knife to war

I carried a cold steel SRK carbon V and a gerber applegate Fairborn folder back in my day.

Today I would probably just carry 3.5 to 4 inch folder with a wide blade and easy to sharpen steel. Definitely something with a v grind could be opened with one hand. Oh and would pack a small strop.

I guess my xm18 3.5 fits that description the best.

Right, at least in the other thread we got three. What gives?

Right? I think I'm going to start the next thread: "You're only allowed to carry the blade from one of your knives with you, wrapped in a paper towel. What do you carry...WHAT DO YOU CARRY." (insert thrilling music here)

LOL

I would carry whatever was unit issue. That would reduce the chance it would get lost, broken, borrowed, or stolen. Although in my own experience, one of those four things will inevitably happen anyway ;)

Fine, I'll play along. Though there is no way I'd be going to war with my disabilities. I'm an excellent shot (can out shoot my cousin whose an FBI agent and former Marine/Naval Academy graduate).

Fixed blade would be my Spyderco Schempp Rock.
Folder, well based on my current selection, probably my ZT 0561.

However, if for some reason I were drafted, I'd guess I'd just use what is provided. If I was allowed to bring a pocket knife, it would probably be my TSF Beast, just as it is pretty easy to sharpen, holds a good edge, and is built to withstand heavy use. If I had the money (which I don't now) I'd buy a TSF Gorgon for the larger blade, or when it comes out the Cold Steel AK 47 CTS-XHP.

If you had to take 1 folder and 1 fixed blade knife to war what would it be ;)
I would pick a cold steel gurkha kukri
And a cold steel xl espada

Folder? Leatherman.

Fixed blade? Whatever is cheap. Not gonna use a fixed blade unless I'm in the 23rd Knife Fighting Battallion or the 102nd Cardboard Box Disposal Regiment.

Of course, my choices would be different if I had to take 1 folder and 1 fixed blade knife to war against Magneto.

Hmmmm...

Folder would either be my Strider SMF, or Spyderco Tuff. Both are built like Tanks, the SMF is Tanto ground, so it's more "weapon" oriented, but the Tuff has 3V, and is...well...tougher. I'd probably end up taking the Tuff.

Fixed Blade would hands down be my Anniversary Straight Handle Battle Mistress. It's big, it's heavy, but it's about as hardcore as a knife gets. If I've gotta trust my life to a knife, it's gonna be a Busse. And of the 3 Busse (and kin) knives that I have, The ASHBM wins every time.

A SAK and some moderately priced/good rep bigger knife like a Becker in a quick drawing kydex sheath. I'd probably choose a pointy-er model like the BK-5 or BK-7. The big knife is a near disposable tool and a weapon, but not something that you'll never have a chance to sharpen for days on end, so I don't see the point in expensive super-steels.

Of course, the M9 or new Marine bayonet fit the bill really well.

My Becker BK7, and one of these: Umnumzaan, Sebenza, Cold Steel American Lawman(that's right, I said it!). Hard to choose on the folder, but would probably lean toward the Umnumzaan (just because I like it).

I also always have a multi tool on me, which I use for everything but the blade, so I don't consider it a knife.

BTW, when I was in the service, I never carried a fixed blade. Carried a Buck 110 the whole time. For all you arm chair commandos out there :foot:, never doubt that the 110 is a tough "hard use" knife.

Fixed: Cold Steel Chaos Tanto along with a bayonet. Because the only thing that makes a shooty-stick better is a shooty-stick with a knife on the end!
Folder: XL Espada

Against Magneato I'd bring some shivs and brass knuckles I made out of plastic sheeting.

I'd take my Becker BK7 for a fixed blade and my Benchmade Barrage for a folder. If I can't do it with one of those two, then I probably don't need to do it.

Cold Steel Chaos Tanto (since this is a war thread, I assume we're talking about fighting ppl)

Benchmade Adamas

Folder: cold steel espada xl
Fixed: since by literal translation, a chinese battle sword is "dai dao", or "big knife", Id take one of those.

One knife to war? Genuine Nepalese midsize khukuri-knife/machete/prybar/axe all included in one......most ferocious and comprehensive edged weapon second to non.
