If you were deploying... (hypothetical)

Armored Recce or foot mobile?

Recce units travel light and avoid contact with the enemy. The gather info and transmit it back. Even in a vehicle 2 knives is overkill.

Folder big enough to fill your pocket. Like a CQC-7 or a Military.

I am already a conscript soldier, so if I were to ever get deployed the standard-issue bayonet comes along with me, no questions asked.

As for folders, it'll be the cheapest knife in my collection, most probably my S&W CK117. If i'm discovered and not going to make it out alive, I sure as hell am not going to give my would-be killer any valuable trophies to take home with them.

S110V Military in just about any environment and I have a fondness for the Cold Steel SRK, probably in 3v.

I'm not now nor have I ever been deployed in a Recon Unit however. I just can't imagine anything other that very specialised tasks where those two wouldn't perform well.

My choice exactly!

Fixed- Bradford Guardian 5

and I know I should just pick one folder but I never ever have just one folder on me. If so it's very rare. I'd probably end up taking about 10 different ones but more importantly I would take a method of sharpening. If I had to choose just one though..

Folder- Emerson Super CQC-8

In my ruck I carried a Glock 81 field knife I bought in 1984 on Victory Drive out side on Fort Benning. It travelled throughout Southeast Asia and the South Pacific.

Interesting, SRK is a classic.
The SRK is basically just a modern copy of the USN Mark 1 from WW2.

Every military centric discussion I've seen here centers around weight. Small folder, like a MiniGrip or Delica, would do me, and a LM Rebar for tools. Whatever fixed blade is issued would probably be stowed.

Served in a Marine grunt unit and after the first 27 mile forced march every groundpounder started dropping whatever gear they could, including the tacti-cool fixed blades they just purchased. Most just kept some type of light folder for opening MREs,cutting 550 cord, etc.

That SRK is way too clean looking!!!

Leatherman MUT or surge (if I don't need to service my weapon, surge has diamond file for sharpening)
Benchmade presidio auto (I have one, and have put it through hell. Including. Stoning. Still keeps going strong)
Becker BK-7 (while not fancy, it is the right length and toughness I think)

ZT 0301 lives in my hip pocket

Busse Basic 11 lives on my assault pack

Busse HG55 lives on my kit

The ZT replaced my spydie military, and is most likely going to get replaced by a sebbie. This guy opens up MRE's and cuts metric craploads of 550 Cord.
The Basic 11 has cut more saplings down than I care to think about to veg up HMMWV's and hide sites. This guy lives on the assault pack because I don't need it all the time, but I'm carrying that pack when I do.
The HG55 lives on my it because I'm a nerd, and like the idea of having another option when room clearing - though realistically, this is a secondary machete to help me go through the bad bad, or a pry bar to help me skin a truck if I need to.

Being a Vietnam veteran, I wish I had these two knives the last time I was deployed! Enough said!

I would carry a quality multitool, a good pocketknife, and maybe a decent 4-5 inch knife if I needed one. Weight would be a factor, so no overbuilt bricks. Following those parameters XYZ can be filled with all sorts of stuff. Fantasies are fun, but the reality is that it really doesn't matter which one as long as it works. Yeah, I will be 'that guy'.

Well. I'll be "that guy" too. Seems like everyone who served is also "that guy". All seem to say that a fixed blade, especially a high end bombproof chopper/prybar/survival knife is a heavy fantasy item that goes pretty much unused/stolen/ridiculed, and they invariably say they carried and used a multitool and a folder from the px like a Gerber.

So, I'll be "those guys" and go with a Leatherman, and maybe go nuts and take a Spyderco Delica.
