If you were deploying... (hypothetical)

If carrying a multitool like the LM Wave/Charge/OHT etc I don't see the need for a folder. So one of the LM's and the Esee 4 or 6 or something similar/in between. Or even just the Esee 3

Leatherman supertool (tethered to my belt), CRK Pro Soldier (daily user) and CRK Pacific just in case...

Carried an Al Mar Woodsman to Sinai in the late 80's.
Carried a Cold Steel Voyager clip point(plain edge) and a regular Sebenza on 2 different deployments to Iraq as well as a Swisstool.

I had a few fixed blades but those folders saw 90-95% of all work.(CRK Shadow IV and Busse Natural Outlaw)

Like an idiot, I sold all but the Voyager which I passed on to a friend heading out just before I retired.

If heading back I'd grab my PM2, Arktika and Sebenza along with my Strider EBLT/DBL. I'd also pick up another Cold Steel Voyager PE clip 3-4" as it's a great beater for the price.

Spyderco Endura. Becker BK7. Leatherman Wave. Victorinox Soldier Knife (the new one with the locking serrated blade with the serrations at the tip instead of down by the ricasso.

The SRK is basically just a modern copy of the USN Mark 1 from WW2.

That SRK is way too clean looking!!!

It was a gift when I deployed once. Never carried it. Never even sharpened it.

I caution against buying someone a knife before he deploys. If the deployer isn't looking for a specific knife, the knife you buy him may never get used.

I carried a Spyderco Police and Cold Steel Mini Tanto on my 2 deployments.

Now it would be my Spyderco Gayle Bradley and Fallkniven S1.

Large Sebenza Insingo micarta inlay - or maybe an Spyderco Endura flatt ground green handle.
:)

Most of those type of units usually issue their troopers a knife and said troops keep them locked up while buying throw-away knives.

I'd go for a Spyderco Delica and a bayonet along with a couple diamond pocket stones.

Those type of units go for weight savings.

Was already mentioned a couple of time.
The BM Adamas.
Not because it's heavy and has a big fat blade. It's just that it's huge handle is the one which fits my hands the best out of all the folding knives I have.

Fixed I'd go with a longsword or saber so I could train at base and thats where it would stay also.

KaBar

And a SAK Super Tinker.

That s what I has last time I deployed.

For a military deployment overseas:

Fixed blade: OKC (Ontario Knife Company) Afghan model - something I could beat up, dig with, pry with, etc. (Becker BK-2 if the Afghan wasn't available.)
Folder: Either the Microtech Socom D/A or the Gerber 06 auto, for quick blade deployment if needed.

For 'civilian deployment' with our Scout Troop on a long hike or campout:

Fixed blade: Mora Companion, mostly used for food prep & fuzz sticks
Folder: A liner lock with good steel, easy to sharpen in the field, that I can dunk in a river & shake it out for a quick cleaning and can be taken apart if needed (after we return home) for deep cleaning. I've taken these on various trips over the past few years: Spyderco Tenacious, OKC Utilitac II, CRKT Carson M4-03, Boker AK-47, Kershaw Blur or Smith & Wesson #SWHRT (early production, made in Taiwan, amazing quality.)

I wouldn't imagine that they would ever be processing game. So for a fixed blade, I'd recommend a Cold Steel Master Tanto in 3V, and a Broken Skull as a Folder.
