Im not a fan of benchmade, why should i be?

Dont own one, never wanted one, dont see the appeal. Is there something wrong with me?

If i was to get one wich model would be best. (im guessing the griptilion)

No, there's nothing wrong with you.

What do you currently have and what about them do you like? If you list those things, maybe someone can recommend a BM that has similar attributes.

spyderco Tenacious is my favorite, cheap and strong its my best pal
Rat 1 folder, same deal
Manix 2

kershaw

There's nothing wrong with not liking the designs of a certain company. But don't let this perception of quality stop you. A Benchmade is just as good as any other production knife out there.

If the only thing you do with knives is play with them, imagine scenarios when you could use jimping, and cut paper, maybe a BM isn't your best choice. If you actually use your knife, can appreciate the ambidextrous function of the AXIS, and know how to perform simple maintenance (i.e. sharpen, lube, adjust the pivot) you'll love BMs.

Maybe look up online to see if you have a local BM dealer. Who knows, maybe if you get to handle a BM you'll change your mind. Or maybe you won't, but at least you won't have this dilemma to deal with anymore.

If you've never wanted one, then why are you asking us which one you should buy?

The only thing wrong with you is that you're attempting to bait people into another boring brand-loyalty flame war.

There is not a thing wrong with Benchmade products, IMO. I particularly like the Grips, which are well made and tough.

Omega spring problems? Try not inducing metal fatigue by repeatedly flicking the knives open and closed.

I was exactly like the OP until I flipped my buddy's 940. I liked it so I got a 710, I had in my pocket yesterday, awesome knife. My favorite BM is the 630 Skirmish, one of best production knives ever, it has a heavy blade and a flawless lock. Benchmade knives have power and utility, but they also have style.

i personally have never owned one i know but i am thirteen not alot cash flow so i tend to stray towards spydie co witch i love but i am currently saving up to buy a BM balli

You should be a fan because Benchmade produces production knives equal in quality and design to the best American companies. When other companies are moving more production outside the U.S., Benchmade is moving ALL production inside the U.S.

Some of Benchmade's products aren't to my taste but then there are others like all their Lum designs and the 710 that just get my mouth watering. The BM760 will probably be my next purchase.

As for sharpness, from my small sample I would agree that they don't seem to come as sharp oob as does Spyderco, for example. However, they are very far from being dull from the factory.

I can't help you with which model Benchmade to pick; as I have never been interested in owning any of the knives they make.

Perhaps a good reason to buy one is because you think a little butterfly looks cool on a all black tactical knife blade. :D

WOW no. I dont like the look and feel of them, but ive only had 4-5 models actually in my hand. lots of people like them, people that know alot about knives. I want to know what will impress me for what i need, looks arent everything, i like strong working knives, i dont know much about the AXIS lock and this thread has helped. No war here bro

Not a fanboy by any means. I used to, in fact, be against BM for their pricing and movement of making "business" rather than thinking of the consumer. Although in reality I could understand why they are doing what they are doing, even though it does not benefit me.

In regards to that I do like the BM 710, 940, and 950 Rift. Outside of those three none really appeal to me. I do think they are overpriced for what you get in comparison to Spyderco if buying NIB from a dealer or eBay most times.

I love the 940, but the cheapest it sells on quick search on google is $120 before shipping after that is $130 before shipping. You could buy a NIB Spyderco Military for the same price, but you are getting [imo] better steel, longer blade, more ergonomic g10 handle, better edge geometry, and a better all around performance knife.

Of course it could go both ways depending on the knife.

There is something VERY WRONG with anybody who does not like BM :)
710 with HS blade - does not get any better. More expensive - sure, better - no way.
921 - best GF. And that is the way the cookie gets eaten :)
The only thing that would make me switch away from BM -
Spyderco Caly 3.5 with S90V blade, CF handle and Ball lock(like the one on Manix2)
but those will never be made - cause it would kill all other knife manufacturers :)

My first good knife purchase was a BM 710. That was when the 710 first came out and was probably well over 10 years ago. I carry it to work every day and love the Axis Lock and how such a big bladed knife carries sooo small! I flip it open all the time and guess what? I have NEVER had to change a spring or adjust the pivot. This knife is still one of my favorites and I have a dozen or so similar sized knves from Kershaw, Ontario, Spyderco, CKRT, ZT, Byrd, and Cold Steel. The BMs have top notch fit and finish and the Axis Lock is my favorite lock. Just my 2 cents.

there are a few BMs with spyderholes and axis lock, a few with liner locks, but i've only dealt with one BM so far and i wasn't a fan of the axis lock.
