Im not a fan of benchmade, why should i be?

I personally love Benchmade knives they are definately in my top 2 knife manufacturers. I really like a lot of their designs both old and new and all the different variety that they offer. As far as prices go I feel that they are pretty comparable to other brands including spyderco. Sure there are a few exceptions either way but looking at their catalogs side by side I find them pretty comparable.

As far as the AXIS goes I think that it is the best lock inovation in I don't know how long but it does everything just about perfect. I've had about a dozen axis lock knives now and have yet to ever have a problem with any of them let alone any of them failing. However even if one of the springs break the knife will still function with just one spring. I think the whole omega spring bashing is really just a bunch of rubish myself. I can see someone being afraid to edc an axis lock IF they are overseas fighting a war or something to that effect where if a omega spring actually did break you wouldn't be able to get a new spring for quite a while. But for almost all of us knife nuts here we are always around a phone or computer anyway so if anything happened we could get it fixed in a matter of about a week. Anways as you can tell I'm a fan of both benchmade knives and the axis lock and also would like to know what kind of designs you like if you're not into benchmades.

Oh and all of Benchmades knives are made in the good ol' USA. How many other knife companies can claim that?? Not many at all.

i've had 3 benchmades

1)mini ambush- it had the rolling lock with indraft- i didnt really like it, it was aus8 and ce so i never really carried it, but it was pretty comfortable. the rolling lock worked well until the indraft bar broke

2)mini-dejavoo- it was alright, s30v and g10. i didnt like how smooth the g10 was, and the closed retention on it sucked balls. it was a liner lock, which i thought they executed well. if flewww open super smooth and locked up tight with a loud snap.

3)ritter mini grip with m4- could be one of my favorite knives i've had. it is just like .25 in too small handle tho. ive been wanting to try out an axis lock and a super steel and i tackled 2 with one stone. I just got it today, so i cant comment on the steel but i like the axis a lot. i can see why so many people like it so much. i think when i finally sack up and get some wilkinsgrips for it it could be my fav knife ever.

over all i would say get one, and get one with axis. theyre well built knives made from high quality materials. might as well try one out.

As far as recommendations go I really love the Mini Rukus, Griptilian (particularly the Ritter grip and even more particularly now the M4 Ritter Grip), and the Bradley Alias. To me all of these knives are very ergonomic, have excellent blade profiles, and use about the best locks on the market. Highly recommended.

Benchmade for some reason makes some people get all heated. Must remind them of their high school bully or something.

I typically like them. Sometimes they hit, sometimes they miss. Like all manufacturers.

i have nothing in particular against benchmade. i still have an old pardue auto. there are some other designs that i like.

but most of us have to pick and choose, we can't collect everything.

It's hard to explain why I like Benchmade so much, but once I bought one I couldn't stop. It's a good company with nice designs, great customer service, and warranty that is hard to beat. What else can you ask for?

Dont own one, never wanted one, dont see the appeal. Is there something wrong with me?

If i was to get one wich model would be best. (im guessing the griptilion)
Two things possible:

You have to much money, so you don´t know how to spend it, or

You have not found the right knife somewhere else.:D

I am a fan of benchmade. First, because in 2003 there were not many manufacturers offering folders 100% for lefties. I bought one and fell in love with it. I bought the next and the same happened. I started to think, that any Benchmade i would buy i would fell in love. So i tried to come down. But i got four, no five further knives from them.

I might have bought a Spyderco, a Military or that type, first, but they were not offered for lefties. To carry a knife on the "false side" was no option, still the Military or Paramilitary are offered with single right hand carry. Sad but true.

I have had problems with some of Benchmades blades but their locks work great since more than five years. Reliable, strong and safe. The blades were made ok.

I liked some of their designs more than many other and oftenly felt, that knives from other manufacturers are somehow cheaply buildt.

From year to year Benchmade has become better in quality. The last two folders i got are fantastic.

FYI, the Military was/is made in a left hand version.

Never seen one here and back in 2003, new to knives, online sales and such, never came to my notice.

But: It might have come different, if some models have had a switch option.

Get the 14205. Great little folder.

+1. An awesome "tank" knife. I've bought three more benchmades since the 14205 but I still like it the most. Awesome design and very ergonomic. I like the bigger AXIS lock on it than on normal benchmades too.

tuffthumbz,

Try the Rift (model # 950) or the Onslaught (model # 740). Of the 7 Benchmades that I own, I keep coming back to those two.

Cool blade shapes, great ergonomics and pretty good steel.

Having said that, you will probably want to resharpen them right after you get them. BM is hitting about 80% on sharpness out of the box. Decently sharp, but nothing to write home about, and the edge is usually pretty rough. BUT lately there have been very very few factory edges that have me squealing with glee. But I'm gonna eventually reprofile and polish up to match the angles on the Sharpmaker anyway. So I might as well start with it right out of the gate.

Currently own a Rukus and an Ambush. Got an Onslaught in the mail. Looking for a nice Grip, am haggling about a 710...
Yeah, I like Benchmade. They can be pricey, but they make good knives. Love the smoothness of the Axis lock.

If you want to see something capable of hard work, handle a Presidio. I have a single BM fixed blade in D2, it's an outstanding knife and I'll never let it go. I've EDC's an AXIS model and I fell in love with it, it was hard giving it back to its owner.

I is my opinion that there are only 2 affordable quality knife manufactures out there right now Benchmade and Spyderco. Both offer a lot of bang for your buck in that $100-$200 price range. Its just that Benchmades appeal to me more then Spyderco. Mind you this is only my opinion and not a fact:D

As far as affordable quality goes, don't forget Kershaw. I still like Benchmade more, but Kershaw is very close second (in my opinion). I was never able to warm up to Spyderco, and I tried.

How are people messing up the Omega springs?
Do they sweat acid or something? What gives?
None of my AXIS locks gave me any trouble at all, and neither have my father's given him any trouble.

nah, no real reason to like BM. I have a lot of their knives that I purchased around 5-10 years ago, but QC and CS have both gone down the crapper recently. no interesting steels in the few decent designs, nothing new that's really compelling, dull knives out of the box, and the tendency to ignore what customers are asking for. :thumbdn:

I agree.
I’ve never had a problem with the Omega springs on any of my Axis knives.
I think the Benchmade Axis system is one of the all time best designs, ever.

Except for M4, M390, and all the sprint runs of requested models...
