Im not a fan of benchmade, why should i be?

Not a fanboy by any means. I used to, in fact, be against BM for their pricing and movement of making "business" rather than thinking of the consumer. Although in reality I could understand why they are doing what they are doing, even though it does not benefit me.

In regards to that I do like the BM 710, 940, and 950 Rift. Outside of those three none really appeal to me. I do think they are overpriced for what you get in comparison to Spyderco if buying NIB from a dealer or eBay most times.

I love the 940, but the cheapest it sells on quick search on google is $120 before shipping after that is $130 before shipping. You could buy a NIB Spyderco Military for the same price, but you are getting [imo] better steel, longer blade, more ergonomic g10 handle, better edge geometry, and a better all around performance knife.

Of course it could go both ways depending on the knife.

I don't like the Military so I could turn that around. For the same price as a Military you are getting an AXIS lock vs a liner lock, more easily carried size, better looking green anodized aluminum, and a better EDC knife that won't freak the office out. To my knowledge the Military comes standard with an S30V blade which is what the 940 comes with. Everyone likes different things and styles and opinions can always be biased to make something sound better.

If you've never wanted one, then why are you asking us which one you should buy?

The only thing wrong with you is that you're attempting to bait people into another boring brand-loyalty flame war.

I completely agree with this statement. Pretty smart for 8 posts.:D

So would it sound unreasonable if a person who loves beer wants to try out some wine, even though an ex girlfriend had them try it once and didn't really like it, and wants to know a good vintage to try out?

Doesn't seem to absurd. Just sayin.

Aside from where you are carrying it or how you are carrying I am talking just about function.

very true, although the adverse side is that Spyderco has CPMs30v.
the liner lock has passed the test of time and has no extras like omega springs, which a few have said failed. If the millie's to big you have the para at the same price range. Flame flame flame

OP: Buy what you want and gotta be careful with some of these posts, it can fire up the fanboys! Self included.

Still like the 710, 950, 940...just like others better.

come on if you read what i posted youd see for the 3rd time, i dont like them but i dont own one, so i want to own one and see why people like them so much! I want to know a good BM that will show me the light.

I have quite a few benchmades, some with and some without the axis lock. I really like them due to their designs and the quality that shows in the way that they look and perform.

If you don't like the axis lock, one of my favorites (due to the comfort of the handle and the way that it carries, deep in pocket and great ergonomics) is the Lum designed Mini Dejavoo. It also has S30V steel and I feel that it is one of the best EDCs in my rotation.

All right then,..........
710 is a classic, give it a spin. I am just wary of and weary of BM bashing. If this is your true heart, then forgive me.

FMB- I no longer drink beer, and always avoided wine except for Lambrusco. It is a beer drinker's wine.

It is still all opinion. Mine is that the AXIS lock is one of, if not the best engineered knife locks made. I will not own a liner lock as I have had them wear out and fail. My experience, my opinion. For MY edc role a 940 would 'function' better than a Military. Again, my needs and my opinion. I don't know what you are trying to say about the S30V. As I'm sure any knife nut knows S30V is CPMS30V is still S30V. It is all the same. Flame flame flame , whatever that means.

I wasn't trying to give you a hard time, just saying I don't see the post as necessarily trolling and there could be validity to it. I too no longer drink and never drank wine. Beer and bourbon were a different story.

No prob man, i know alot of people do that so i can understand

I cant bash BM because i dont have one

i got a chance to play with Benchmade Shane Sibert MPR 2.9 and i loved it but $200 seemed to me like an $80 knife.

What I want to know from everyone that does not like Benchmade, what do you like?

I understand everyone has different tastes, so I'm just curious what you like if Benchmade's designs do not appeal to you?

I've carried the BM 630BK for several years now as my EDC and it's never let me down and works as well if not better today than the day I got it. I wish they were still making the Skirmish as I'd love to buy another.

You shouldn't buy a knife from a company if you don't like any of their designs or find them to expensive. Life's too short.

I haven't been able to handle one yet but it looks like one tank of a knife. Just curious what other knives that are of similar construction and materials cost only 80 bucks? I doubt I will ever see one though as it is too small for me.

I personally find it hard to write off an entire company so this thread has me intrigued.

Edit: The website I am trying to find the price on is down but from what I remember the MPR is more like $140 than $200. $200 is the lowest price dealers can advertise.

im not writing off Benchmade I basically want to know more about them from fans of the company. Maybe the prices turn me off, but at the same time i love spyderco and the prices are similar

It sounds like you are ready to give Benchmade a try tuffthumbz.

The 942 and 913 are 2 of the best production folders I have ever owned. Get your hands on a 940 series and it speaks for itself. Cool, cool, cool. But at $150-$190 it's a bit high for your first bm.

On the other hand, the 913 is an amazing value. D2 blade, titanium liners, G10 scales, optional assist all for around $100. I have done just about everything short of prying with my 913 and it is always up to the task. I have a ton of knives, but more often than not I have my 913 on me at all time.

If you are looking to get a good idea of what a Benchmade can do for $100 I would say try the 913.

By the way, I have owned 8 Benchmade knives and they have all come with a hair poppin edge on them.
