iMac users? My PC PUKED and I'm thinking Mac

I have both. I primarily use my Mac when surfing the internet. it just flows on a a mac. My PC, i use for everything else, like office and when ever I D/L software, there are always more options for the PC. So i guess it depends on what you use it for more.

Edit: I also agree that Vista was a chore unless you were willing to commit serious time to tweaking for performance. I used it for years and loved it (not at first) but it took work. I've been using Windows 7 since the early beta releases and it's just about everything Vista should have been.

That is good to hear about Win 7. I didn't have the time or patience to deal with Vista and don't do enough hard core gaming or use intense applications to even want to try. Sounds like you are more capable than me when it comes to tweaking your system. Maybe that is why mac works for me. I just want to turn it on and use it 'cause if I start tweaking things something goes wrong.:o:D

By the time Macs have even close to the number of PC users, they will have all the same problems.

However, they are great. I am using an iMac right now actually, and I can't wait til next week, because I am upgrading to a 24 inch iMac with OSX and a full version of Windows 7 pro.

I miss Windows, but macs are awesome. Since they can run windows now as well, I'm sold.

Oh, you will be broke though.

Once you go mac you'll never go back ... or at least you'll wonder why you didn't "do this" years ago. I switched in 2003 and it's computing nirvana, I haven't looked back. Ever.

If you want to pay a premium for a laptop that can only do a few things because of software limitation go ahead. If you want a laptop that can do everything, and doesn't have the "I'm trendy" tax, go with a Windows 7 machine. You can buy more INFI that way.

My opinion.
1. PC's can be had cheaper, but PC's of similar quality cannot. A MacBookPro to Dell comparison is not apples to apples. pardon the pun. Dell is a midrange machine at best. My son, who is a technogeek, had the big Dell that the gamers were crazy about a couple of years ago. Today, he had a MacBook. The current MacBook Pro is at LEAST in the same category as a Panasonic Toughbook. When asked a couple of years ago why Apple didn't make a Mac netbook, Steve Jobs replied that he didn't know how to make a $500 laptop that wasn't a POS.
2. OS X is an incredible stable OS that doesn't require that you has an MS in computer science with a specialty in Unix to work it.

I know people say "I can build my own PC for X" but most people, myself included not only can't do that, but have no desire to learn how. For us computer illiterate and maintenance averse luddites, Apple is the best choice. I personally don't care what this machine and that machine does. All I know is that after a couple of PC's, 3 Palm Treo 600 series and 3 Motorola Razrs going south on me (ALL hardware issues) in the previous 3 or so years, I bought a 24 inch iMac in 2006 and an iPhone 3G when they came out and I haven't even had to think about whether they were going to work as advertised or not. Just my experience, so take it for what its worth. People talk about Apple fanboys, but the fact of the matter is that you don't become a fanboy until AFTER you buy an Apple. So what does that say?;)

Macs are "PC's". . . I don't buy into image marketing.

If you are getting infections on your computer, you are doing something wrong. Macs are no more immune to viruses than windows machines, they simply have a tiny market share, and there are less people writing malicious software for them. Apple recommends that you run AV software on their machines.

I have used Macs a bunch, and they are fine machines.

Personally, I prefer windows to Mac OS, and I like to play games. Mac PC's are very expensive. My new desktop computer cost less than 1/4 the price of a mac tower with similar specs, but faster and with twice as powerful a graphics card.

Apple is number 4 in market share in the US as far as units delivered. Acer became number 3 this past year, but that was mostly on the strength of $400 netbook sales. Apples average sale was north of $1200 so Apples actual revenue from computers was likely at least twice that of Acer and probably more.

+1 for the MAC

it is not really about the cool factor for me... i want my stuff to work and that is what you get when you buy a Mac... i have buddies that swear by their PCs (and i use a PC at work all day and at school on occasion) but those guys spend a lot of time tinkering... i don't want to tinker:thumbdn:

it should be noted that although Macs are more expensive they last forever... i just bought a new mac book pro but right now i am using my old ibook G4...this thing is like 5 years old...still works fine:D

they have something like 3-7% of the PC market. Any increase in sales is thanks to the now defunct Vista. Of course they make huge profits, they are extremely overpriced, and effectively marketed.

I play games, and like to know what's going on under the hood. Putting together my new PC last fall was quite a pleasant experience, and very enlightening. Not that I haven't heard of people having nightmarish experiences, just do your research and choose your components carefully.
As for viruses and keeping windows running smoothly, re-format your computer at least every year, if not twice. It gets you in the habit of backing things up (which should be done no matter what you use), and doesn't take too long once you're used to it. (4-5 hours)
It also helps in case you need to do an emergency re-format, such as if a nasty virus takes hold of your system.

This. You can get a similarly speced laptop for much cheaper than a macbook. Don't think that your macbook has some kind of magic hardware inside that makes it worth the price, because it doesn't.

The main selling point I have heard for Macs is their lack of viruses. That is a lame excuse. If you are having trouble with viruses, then you are doing something wrong. Hell, if viruses are your main concern, you should be running Linux. It is free.

My biggest gripe with macs is their lack of software compatibility. They are crippled by the lack of software available. On top of that, the software that is available is overpriced.

I have not found one program I want to run that is not available on Mac. Can you ellaborate please?

I never had virus issues with my PC, just incapable OS. I like my Mac for the fact that I don't have ANY software issues, none.

between proprietary and open source, there shouldn't be any situation on mac or pc where a user is left wanting for usable software.

I had two pcs (Toshiba and Sony) that crashed twice each/got viruses in the span of two years. Literally left the repair shop, walked to the Apple store and bought a mac book...I'll never go back to pcs. I've had three completely problem free years on a mac now.

I'm a linux / osx guy ... and I'd say OSX is the best OS overall... it's like an amazing polished unix flavour with tons of support and amazing software.

I have a PC but every sibling I have who's computer has crashed multiple times has replaced it with a Mac and there have been zero complaints from any. They swear by them instead of At them.
Not sure i'd ever go that route due to the additional expense but good to know. If someone has a some good reading on the Mac system, i'd be interested in reading it.
