Inkosi

I've been playing with this a little more and check this out. One of my fears carried over from BLADE when I first handled this knife. The second finger groove is not wide enough. The sharp top hits me in the meat of my third finger. Not very comfortable.

.... that ridge shouldn't even be there. If I had the skills to remove it without jacking up the whole knife I'd do it and the knife would be great. If I did the same and made more relief around the thumb studs it would be a perfect "little guy" EDC. At this point I'm a bit disappointed. I have small hands and it's an issue. I am certain guys with medium or large hands will have issues. Didn't anyone mention this as an issue during beta testing? Seriously. That's a legit question.

First of all, before reading your comments on the bead blasting, I noticed something was up with the finish of the knife from the pics. How it made it past QC is beyond me, and I wouldn't have been pleased either.

The ergos issue is a concern I shared way back when people were asking if there'd be a small 25. I just didn't see how finger grooves on a handle that small could equate to being comfortable. With my experience with the 25, the grooves seemed to force my hand in a certain position, and I'd think with a smaller handle you'd need to be more flexible in allowing different hand and finger positions due to there being less real estate plus everyone's hands are different. For something that's going to be a user knife, I'd want ergonomics to be at the top of the list...for me. I don't have small hands so if ergos are an issue with small hands that's not sounding good to me. Eager to hear your impressions after some real world use.

Why is there talk of a large Inkosi? Is there such a thing? The clip is angled so it puts pressure on the scale itself and not the lockbar. The clip on my 21 and 25 don't bother me in any way! Neither does the cutout on the 25.

I'm gonna have to give my Inkosi a few days before I come to any conclusions! Thanks for the pics Volgrad! If I'm like you Volgrad, I'll just sell mine too and put it towards an Insingo of some flavor.

I disagree in that I think the angled clip from the Inkosi would fix the hotspot issue I and many other users have with the 25. The second finger choil on the 25 forces your finger to be in a position where, unless you angle the back end off the knife out of the back of your palm, the clip digs into the meat of your second finger. Either the clip on the 25 should have been shorter, ending right before the 2nd finger choil so that the flared piece of the clip was between your second and third finger or do what everyone else does with clips and angle them away from the gripping fingers so the flared end is pressed into the meat of your palm. That's much more comfortable than digging into fingers IMO.

So I would welcome the angled clip to the 25 or a large Inkosi. I see only positives with that change.

Such a bummer. One of the issues with grooves is that forces your hand into one fixed position and seeing as how the handle is compact to begin with, I am not surprised to see concerns over grip.

I hope CRK continues to iterate on the knife.

I compared the grip on a 21 and 25 and found that a loose grip is about equal in feel. If i really need to use the 25 hard , then thats where the design forces me to use the finger choils. Not seeing much room on the Inkosi to move my hand around liberally.

I played with the Inkosi a little more today side by side with my small Sebenza. I have found when gripping the Inkosi if I first set my middle finger in the groove then place my other fingers I can get a good grip without the discomfort.

I really think CRK came really, really close on this one but I'm hoping they will remove or refine the grooves and increase the recess around the thumb studs on future versions. Mine is listed for sale.

At the CA show Tim Reeve mentioned there would be a Large Inkosi at some point.

What would be the difference between a large inkosi and a sebenza 25? Angled clip??

Round stop pin (not notched), smaller size (if the "small" Inkosi vs small Sebenza holds consistent), notched blade tang, angled lockbar (wider at "hinge") - those are what come to mind.

I'd hope it would be a middle child with a 3.25" blade. If you own a 25, a Lg Inkosi would be redundant unless you're a CRK collector... There is definitely a lot of people out there who would want a CRK folder in between the Sm and Lg size.

Yup.

I saw and wondered just the same thing (grip), glad it came up so soon (before I bought one).
Now, IF I had one, and would keep it forever, I would grind that second "point" off, make a new chamfer, reblast the scales and make it a pleasing to the hand knife.

* Volgrad, I have a small hand as well and see your last finger is not "in space", wondered that as well. In other words, the handle is long enough.

Just ribbing a little here, but the day I buy a $400 knife to grind down and reshape any part of it to make myself like it, I officially will have more money than sense. ;)

I do feel the handle is long enough. It's just the groove spacing/width that's an issue for me.

I would be one to fall into that category. A large Inkosi sure could be that tweener.

I wonder what size hands Mr. Reeve has? Somebody had test fit the Inkosi....I really really want this knife, but dang, if it's not comfortable in the hand, what's the use.....

You are limiting yourself with that train of thought, yofaengr, you might expand them.

:)Not going to buy this knife.

I've had no trouble with the handle or grip. Of course I wouldn't buy a subcompact pistol and complain about my pinkie finger not getting full purchase either.
I really don't understand the thicker blade, accessibility to the thumb stud is limited. Maybe the designer wanted a more deliberate thumb placement for opening? Ie not flicking it? Don't know just speculating.
As far as the dual thumblugs I have really got to dig to open with my left thumb. My knife is not broken in as of yet though.
I am not bashing on your review volgrad, everything is subjective. Good day everyone.
Do I prefer my small regular? He'll yes, but this will go in the stable

I wear size large Mechanix Wear gloves and I like the Inkosi so far. I will not be skinning buffalo with it or anything serious like that. I will use it as needed when traveling in blade length restricted areas. It fits the need that I was looking for perfectly.
