Inkosi

I am also fond of the small sebs.. I'd pick this up since I always prefer To EDC smalls rather than Large ones.. :)

Now .... wonder when they will officially release these babies and which dealers will have pre-order. I am giddy.

Dumb question for a person with just small 21's. Difference in lockup methods defined please?

Myself, I like the smalls so I'm interested in it, but it does seem even more so on the small side. Although with the clip off an pretty nice pocket knife. Wonder what the final price will be though in the street.

The 21's like you have are the original framelock design. The lock engages the blade tang itself. All the sebenzas with the exception of the 25 have this design. It was invented by CRK many years ago and is often referred to as the "integral framelock". The frame lock end that engages the blade tang is hardened using a torch and that creates a hard surface that stands up to extreme wear...............With the introduction of the umnumzaan, Chris developed a similar, but different style of lockup. The blade tang is a tad shorter, so it does not engage the blade tang. A ceramic ball is affixed to the end of the lockbar and its the ceramic ball that engages the blade tang end. This design has been proven reliable. You will sometimes here a spa treatment statement that the lockbar had to be re-heat treated. This ceramic ball lockup eliminates that. With the success of it on the umnumzaan, Chris decided to use it for the 25 sebenza.

With the original sebenza design, when you reassembled the knife, it was just tighten it and go. With the zaan and 25 ( ti-lock to I believe ), you have to set the blade tension. If you like it stiffer, you can do so, if you like it a tad looser, you can. All this is achieved with less than 1/4 turn. So yet again, CRK tolerances are beyond super tight.

Just from what I gather, this small 25-like knife should be a hit. The blade is the same as the mnandi, but if its anything near as beefy as the 25....WOW. I personally am a large sebenza guy, but do have a few smalls. They really dont get carried, but they are special none the less. The small than 3" will pretty much cover every knife law in each state. Smalls with a 2.9" blade is kinda close and left up to interpretation. We all know how that can go. Something 2.7, well, then your definitely under.

If CRK has a retail of $375, thats what they will more than likely cost from dealers. Its funny. When I first got into CRK, I only ever spent like $50 on a folder. Now, if it doesnt cost $400, I am like, what is wrong with it.....lol. CRK all the way for me.

Now I REALLY wish I was going to Blade...........

I'm going to try to go. I'm close enough to drive over easily but might have to work on Saturday which always prevents me from going. I work a desk job but this is our busiest time of year and I always work a couple of weekends in June.

This is slowly growing on me... I just hope the blade thickness on it isn't as thin as the mnandi. No problem if it is, I would just prefer that it were as thick as the 25.

This definitely has my attention. I love the small 21, and carry them regularly in the city. The large is just too much knife. Mnandi is damn near spot on in size, so this might just be an addition to the collection. Blade 2015 just gets better and better...

Oh yes! It may sound small, but I can't wait to test out how the pocket clip rests on the spine, versus the lock bar. That should make this super smooth to deploy.

I think I will wait for the production model..

Didn't realize the blade on this was ~.2 shorter than the 21
Interesting that the blade is shorter, but the handle length seems the same

I was hoping for a bigger handle to blade ratio...

Smaller but thicker blade? Yes please! This will be a great EDC knife on areas with 3" limits... :)

The blade measurement is taken from the plunge to the blade tip, or the exposed part of the blade.

I love the looks of that. I can't wait to get one! I was very excited when I saw that in my Blade magazine!!
