Thanks to everyone who has sent knives and who are participating in the group purchase.

It is an honor to be a part of this place with each of you.

Just a few more days before I place the order, so if anyone else wishes to participate please drop me an email or send your knives directly to Brian.

As of yesterday's mail we have around 300 collected.

I appoligize, I originally posted this thread to the wrong community.
I am the Brigade Command Sergeant Major for the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division; currently serving in Iraq. I'd like to see if anyone is interested in sending some knives to award to deserving Soldiers. I conducted something similar to this during my last tour and it was impressive. The most important aspect was the look on the Soldier's face when I presented it to them. My email is: brian.carlson1@us.army.mil.
HOHO,有什么需要

Wish I would have seen this before I did the contest!
Oh well I have others in need of a ride thru the Mountians on one of our troops hips:D
Be back soon!

A bunch of us got together and placed an order and the order arrived.
We have:
4 Becker Neckers.
5 Becker Crewmen.
4 Becker Combat Bowies.
1 Buck/Mayo
1 BM NRA
A box of good cigars and some other things :) that will be heading over to CSM Carlson after Christmas.

Thanks to all that helped out.
Gus

Been trying to contact Brian, but my emails get bounced. Wondering if he has rec'd my knives. Anyone able to get through ?

blaze148

I have been able to get through and got a reply from Brian yesterday. I used my ".mil" email account, don't know if that made a difference getting through the Army's internet firewalls.

I have been in touch with Brian on and off and he has gotten quite a few.
P.M. me with details and I will check with him.

R.J. Martin and Darrel Ralph are also sending him some. Thank all.

I am posting a note from Brian.

Gus,

Please pass on to all who have donated to this cause, that I am extremely appreciative and humbled by your contributions of time and money for our Soldiers. I have held on to many knives that I have received so I may recognize many Soldiers at once. Having already done this during my last tour here, I know what the reaction will be from the Soldiers….it’ll be one of pure pride and honor. The fact thet you have recognized these Soldiers will be something that they will never forget. Thank you all very much!!!!

Brian

I sent off a couple of Western cutlery knives. One was a small leather washered
hunter, and the other was a large Bowie.I assume he's gotten them, but not sure if he was going to respond to each donation. Thanks for checking.

Greetings, this is my first post. I am currently making fixed blade tacticals from railroad spikes and leifsprings. I would be happy to donate a few. What types are you looking for and what kind of restrictions are imposed? Fro instance I know that nato dosn't allow serrated blades, are there any other restrictions that you are aware of, like length or whatever?

Thurstan,

Not sure when Brian will be able to post here, but from my understanding there is no problem with length, but the troups find the 3 to 6 inch fixed blades the most usefull.

Dropped off the shipment this morning.

Due to the efforts of members here we sent over $1400.00 in knives (wholesale value) and a little over $100.00 in cigars (retail).

A note to those who were able to help out:

Thank you, I am deeply honored by the trust many of you exhibited in sending some one you have never met your donations. You illustrate all the things that are special regarding the knife community and why being a part of it means so much to me.

I think I have the emails of everyone who helped out and will be sending an email to all of you and Brian by tonight.

If you do not get the email please contact me.

Brigade Quartermasters/Smokey Mountain Knife Works has a donation program in place. You can send a very nice for a fraction of what it would cost if you were purchasing the knife for yourself. For example, $25 for a Cold Steel SRK in Carbon V steel. Seems to me, this is a great way to show our support for our guys.

From Jim Blackburn who is in command of an Armored Cavalry Squadron of 800men deployed to Baghdad, Iraq. He and his Command Sergeant Major were presented with two donated knives. As they near the end of their year in Baghdad they were presented the knives by CSM Brian Carlson and COL Jeffrey Snow of 1-10 Mountain Division.

The guys over there really appreciate all the knives being donated.

It is also good to put names and faced with the guys who put this together.
