Introducing The 535 Bugout

No that's why I took it apart to see if what I thought was happening.
But agreed a tutorial would be very helpful no doubt . They do offer them already assembled and I believe also offer installation on your own bugout.
I normally enjoy these type of little projects but this one was nightmare lol.

Not that this would help with aftermarket scales, but both The ApostleP and Nick Shabazz on YouTube have very helpful axis lock assembly videos. They can be tricky, but I'm pretty comfortable with them now. As others have said, I fully assemble the handle, then use lubricant to stick the washers to the blade, and then slide the whole thing in while pulling back on the axis lock bar (this is imperative). I then use a pick to keep the whole thing in place as I slide the pivot around looking for the sweet spot.

I watched all those videos prior to my scale installation and again during the attempt and again after just to see . Ive done the dab of grease trick for years to keep the washers from sliding around
Even tried it without the washers just to see if I could find the sweet spot to pop it in and no Bueno.

That is a pain! I totally know the feeling, I made some G-10 scales for a Rat-1 a few months back and trying to get it together with less than professional screw alignment was brutally frustrating.

Got my CF scales from Rogue Blade Works last night... What a game changer. Easy install and everything fits perfect. The extra rigidity and premium feel cannot be overstated. The 535-1 is going to be a classic someday!

That looks good !!
Makes me even more excited to get mine back
What great CS Rogue Blade works has!!

Just picked up a 535 at lunch today. Dropped in at Cabela's since I had a gift card. Got the last one they had which was the display model, worked well though because I got 10% off. Other than a too tight pivot I'm really liking the knife a lot more than I thought I would when I first saw it online.
I'll touch up the edge and adjust the pivot when I get home and I'm thinking it will be about perfect.

Update:
Was notified by Rogue Blade works there was no issues with CF scales and the knife went back together with no issues. I'm still at a loss as to why except I might of not went about it in the right sequence, I've takened apart many knives over the years with no issues but have never worked with a axis lock before. Thought I tried every possible way ?
Anyway wanted to clear the air and they were not defective.
Rogue Blade work assembled the knife and its on it way back with no charge .
First class customer service and a big thanks goes out to them
I'll post pictures when it arrives....
What a roller coaster ride lol
Never did get a reply back from benchmade for some replacement screws for the scales .

I have tried emailing them before for parts and never got a response. I called them and that is what worked. Just FYI.

When I've asked Benchmade for parts I don't think I received a reply, but they did eventually show up in the mail.

I had a chance to handle the Bugout at Cabelas today. The knife feels great in and the weight is really low. I like everything about the knife and at the price point, it's great bargain. I'm still going to hold out for a better steel though.

Well I Received My Bugout back from Rogue Blade Works .
I'm happy beyond words . The blade centering is dead on !
The looks and solid feeling of this carbon fiber is amazing .
What a great job Rogue Blade works did and I'd like to throw a big thanks out to them for there excellent Customer service that went above and beyond !
Here's a few pictures that don't really do them justice due to the lighting. There even more beautiful in person and the fit and finish is remarkable .

Those CF scales do look great. Do they make the knife lighter or heavier?
Thanks!
It's really hard to say I'd have to hold one and the other side by side .
It may be a touch heavier but it might be just the more solid feeling in hand.
It's still super light that's for sure .
