Introducing the Zero Tolerance 0801

The more production fit model looks better, but I still stand by thinking the aesthetics of this knife aren't tough enough looking for the ZT line.

I think that was explained somewhat in this video as they were showing the new ZT offerings (towards the end of the video). To paraphrase, as ZT continues to grow and expand, they're adding new products (such as the new 2013 offerings) to make the brand not just geared towards military & law enforcement, but to be a general premium knife brand. Custom feel at production prices.

If this means more EDC-friendly models are headed our way (like the 0566 and 0770) featuring fantastic designs (collaborations and in-house), premium materials (looks like a lot of ELMAX headed our way), and great build quality, that can only be a good thing.

Loonybin, you try the stud lock like the speedbump and the offset use?

I don't see a single current offering on Kershaw's site with the stud lock, and the Speedbump and Offset were right-hand carry only from the pics I've seen.

just seeing those 2 vids makes me want one! the 3.5" blade length is perfect for me for EDC! :-)

I think when you get this knife in your hand, you'll realize that it's a very solid build - it should be a great working knife. The groove textured handles grip well without being harsh, and the blade is flat ground and 0.156" thick. Sure, it's not black, but it'll still do the job just fine.

The only thing I can see that I don't like is the pivot screw. Not that it will affect it in any way, I would just like the looks of it better if it were a more simple looking screw head.

With out further ado...

Some finished Prototypes

Can I order one each of the 3 biggest ones at the bottom of the picture? Looks like 4.5", 4.25" and 4" blades, perfect size and wonderful variety. I prefer that size to the 3.5".

Wish full thinking.

I wasn't really sold on this at first, but the more I look at it, the more I see that I like about it. Home run on this one, ZT team. Wow...

I wish more companies would do sprint runs in left-handed versions because I can't afford $400+ customs. I can't imagine it would take a vast amount of retooling to reverse a knife with pillar construction, but of course that's more expense than companies are willing to pay to satisfy 10% of the population.

I'm liking the way this one looks except the black pivot; it would be much, much nicer in uncoated stainless.

More prototypes aren't exactly what I expected from a company struggling with production on existing/announced models.

I doubt conceptual design and prototyping of knives ever stops in any company no matter what else is going on.

I agree. Not a rip. yet truth. By the time the 0560-0561 caught up production. Hype was over. Now secondary is saturated. I hope this at least releases and is available like the Spyderco Southard. That say no one rips anyone off. I'd still like to preorder. Hmm where I say?!

I like it. But not as much as the 770 (favorite), 566 (second favorite).

Glad this will be production. Just means I can take my time snagging one in the future. And I'm not seeing how this knife couldn't possibly not fit the zt toughness?? Last time I checked, Titanium handles are used on striders and hinderers and customs and hold up just fine. Why would this be any different?
