Introducing the Zero Tolerance 0801

OMG, yes this must be mine, please PM me with pre-order details, even if it is with the devil in exchange for my soul (already did that anyway for an 888 :D).

Now this one excites me. Perfect size, Machined Ti scales, elmax, Frame lock with steel insert. Flipper. I want one.

The fact they are using the steel insert makes me think they are seeing the light. Hopefully the future knives will all include this. Seems we always have a thread open about lock rock and such, and in my mind I think the steel insert may remedy this issue.

I am painfully aware that there are so few left-handed knives out there. I have a left-handed mini-AFCK, and until this weekend, I had a left-handed pre-production Benchmade 910 Stryker made in 1998 (my son... it's depressing:(). Other than that, they are few and far between.

I understand lower sales numbers, but how about coming out with something ambidextrous? I'm a fan of the Axis lock for just that reason (among others), and I have my eye on a Manix 2 because of the ball bearing lock. Neither one requires a finger to get in front of the blade when closing, it doesn't matter whether a person is right or left-handed, it works for everyone. ZT knives are tanks and great quality, but they could be improved by being fully ambidextrous.

If Todd's books were open, I would be on his list for a lefty. Most of the custom makers I've heard of that make lefty knives aren't currently taking orders since they're so backlogged. I guess I have a few years to save for one.

Spoken like a right-hander. ;) Try living as a left-hander for a few months and you might begin to understand. For some of us left-handers, it isn't so easy to manipulate a stiff liner/frame lock with the left thumb. I tried a 0301, 0350, 0551, and 0651 in one of the pass-arounds here, and all of them were so stiff that it was nearly impossible for me to disengage the lock with my left hand, and when it did disengage, I would come close to cutting myself as the knife closed. I've learned from painful experience that right-handed liner/frame locks are not for me.

I've had to learn to use my left hand to open and close linerlocks and framelocks, it just takes some getting used to. Now, even the stiffest ones (Gayle Bradley, Greco Hawkbill, Spyderco PPT) are manageable enough that I don't even think about it.

I do hear ya on the right-handedness of a lot of things we take for granted though. I'm left-eye dominant, and I have to watch out for hot flying brass being ejected towards me when I shoot.
