Introducing the Zero Tolerance 0801

They don't make any other left handed knives, so I wouldn't think so :/
I didn't think so. Guess I'll have to stick with companies that don't consider us southpaws to be afterthoughts and just drill a couple holes on the other side for a clip. At least I'll have a few years to save up for a custom Rexford.

Considering that I am left-handed, I would suggest that left-handed users are always in my thoughts when I am working on new projects. We've made left-handed knives in the past, and they have never sold well. It has less of an impact on smaller manufacturers, but for us it has never made business sense.

You'll note that almost every new knife in the last 2 years has been left-handed friendly with reversible pocket clips. It broke my heart to make the 0777 clip a one position style, but it fit the design best that way.

If you want a truly left-handed knife, your best bet is having a custom maker build one for you. There are a few production options out there, but I can only think of two off the top of my head.

Guess I really never understood the left hand right hand thing ,if a knife has a flipper and is drilled both sides whats the differance ? Sure might have to manipulate to close different but is it that big of problem? just wondering

I meant it might carry better if the pocket clip was closer to the end of the handle like in the pic below. It is harder because of the angle of the handle.

Those new deep carry clip holes won't work with a Hinderer clip like the 560 one does. Darn.

The pocket clip is pushed back as far as it can go on the handle. The shape of the handle doesn't allow it to go back any further. We originally considered using the 0560 pocket clip, but we decided to create a new one. The clip we designed is low profile so it will be less obtrusive in the hand. The "dog eared" design allows for this. Deep carry pocket clips are rarely sexy, but they do the job well, and it's nice to have when sitting down in the car.

No biggie, I've been meaning to try my hand at making a pocket clip for a while now, this should be as good a motivation as any :)

I actually find that framelocks/linerlocks are usable from either hand. While not truly ambidextrous designs, I didn't find any difficulty opening or closing a Spyderco Military or ZT 0560 with my offhand.

As for clips, that's a tricky topic.

Sir, are you aware if there are any existing "shallow carry" pocket clips with the same screw pattern? I'm more of a traditionalist in that I'd rather be able to grab my knife, than hide it. An existing clip that could be ordered to replace it would be great, alternatively I could always have the knife tapped for a different clip, but the extra holes would be unsightly.

I am painfully aware that there are so few left-handed knives out there. I have a left-handed mini-AFCK, and until this weekend, I had a left-handed pre-production Benchmade 910 Stryker made in 1998 (my son... it's depressing:(). Other than that, they are few and far between.

I understand lower sales numbers, but how about coming out with something ambidextrous? I'm a fan of the Axis lock for just that reason (among others), and I have my eye on a Manix 2 because of the ball bearing lock. Neither one requires a finger to get in front of the blade when closing, it doesn't matter whether a person is right or left-handed, it works for everyone. ZT knives are tanks and great quality, but they could be improved by being fully ambidextrous.

If Todd's books were open, I would be on his list for a lefty. Most of the custom makers I've heard of that make lefty knives aren't currently taking orders since they're so backlogged. I guess I have a few years to save for one.

Spoken like a right-hander. ;) Try living as a left-hander for a few months and you might begin to understand. For some of us left-handers, it isn't so easy to manipulate a stiff liner/frame lock with the left thumb. I tried a 0301, 0350, 0551, and 0651 in one of the pass-arounds here, and all of them were so stiff that it was nearly impossible for me to disengage the lock with my left hand, and when it did disengage, I would come close to cutting myself as the knife closed. I've learned from painful experience that right-handed liner/frame locks are not for me.

Man that is a great looking knife for a great price. I keep wanting to stop buying folders. I sure don't need anymore. But ZT keeps sucking me in with their gorgeous collabs.

Could do without so much writing on the blade and elsewhere, but apart from that, what is not to like about this?

So glad that ZT has moved beyond the recurve-only Onion designs. Also glad to see a flipper without thumstuds for the maximum length of unemcumbered cutting edge. And finally, I like the fact that the lanyard hole is beyond the clip. The main reason for putting a lanyard on a folder IMHO is to facilitate quick removal from the pocket, and that doesn't work if the lanyard doesn't hang out of the pocket easily.

I'd also be in for a 4" version.
