It followed me home (Part 2)

The day turn out better than expected. I traded those two Snap-On toolboxes that I paid $160 for in exchange for this stuff. The boxes were worth more, but then again so is this stuff and I like this stuff better.

Nice cleaver, is that a true temper army axe to the left of the grinder?

. . . I couldn't resist this one today for 5$. Collins, . . .

I'm sure I'd be tempted as well. :)

Where did the yardstick come from? The Gilmore Brothers? I was born and raised in Kalamazoo, and lived all my life in the area (well... except for some time with my uncle Sam).

I wasn't even planning on picking today, and this stuff found it's way home with me anyway. Why do I need a cauldron? I don't but the whole lot was $100. That cauldron is 20" across and 14" high.

Around here that cast iron "pot" would be $100 by itself, that is unless somebody had drilled holes in it to make a planter out of it, which is the case alot of times.

Nice Plumb, is that a super scout?

Is that pick there the same type of critter that Square_peg reworked by drawing the points out again? I can't seem to find the post.

Always impressed with the stuff that "follows you home" - this thread is only 111 pages long...

JB. that Plumb is pretty sweet and you never know when you will need an adze handle. The hatchet handle is sure sexy and I believe you can make your own paper also.
You never have bad days my friend.

Just noticed the bladed thing with a hilt behind the wooden mallets - what are we looking at?

Jeez jb very soon you'll need another kitchen table so you can put one of them out on the lawn. That Plumb National looks to be pretty clean right down to the factory paint, head decal and the handle sticker. Would that one be a boy's (2 1/4 lb) version? And is it by chance a Permabond jobbie?

Yes it is. I remember him having to wedge below the eye because it is so shallow. This one has no kerf, just two thick metal wedges in the style of old Maine axes, so no such issue.

It is super nice, no damage on the head whatsoever. The handle is original and in great shape except for the worm holes. Boo. It is a full 3.5lb head on a 28" handle. I have already discarded the handle, a shame. It was pre-Permabond.

Post 'Victory' stamp, post 'Patent Applied For' and pre-dating Permabond makes it a manufacture item between 1949 and 55. I'm pretty sure the one you sent me last year has a 30 inch handle. Is the Plumb stamp on the right side or the more conventional left? Steve has theorized that one of the two Plumb factories might have stamped Nationals on the right whereas the other factory did the left.

Lot's of good stuff there. I like the pick, like the axe, like the mallet, like the press and like the cauldron. Wiccans would pay good money for the cauldron - just as a show piece.

You are the second person to make that point to me in the last 4 hours. Hmmm...I do live near Salem. Well, near from the perspective of most people. Around here 65 minutes is far.

I spoke too soon, a guy I buy from once in a while just showed up with this. I paid $120 for it. It looks the world to me like a Fisher but I don't see any of the normal markings. It sounds like a Fisher too, and has terrific rebound. And it's portable!
