It followed me home (Part 2)

I got this bunch as a lot today for $20. There is a 6lb Craftsman mail, a crummy Truper boys axe, a Mann Connie, Collins Bonded Dayton and a nice Maine axe. I'm told it's a Spiller based on the weight stamp under the poll. Can anyone confirm?

I'M pretty sure it'd way more than 3 something pounds, and would be much thicker in the bit.

It's definitely in the 3.25-3.5lb range. I'll weigh it later. It's def not the typical E&S style date stamp, and I saw another boy's axe with the same style marking who's owner said Spiller. But I'll clean it and see if I can learn more.

Ok, it didn’t follow me home but rather “visited” lol.

The guy that ended up with my favorite boy’s axe dropped by today – good character by the way. Anyway he brought his GB carving hatchet by to try out (I liked it) and talk about Finnish axes and how to come up with something the size of the small forest axe via carving his own handle.

Anyway, I traced the handle from it for a template to carve one out or one that is similar in lines:

The TT hatchet is was just for perspective.

As he was leaving I told him I better not get an invoice for some sort of “tracing fee”… good times.

Never know who you will bump into.

Turns out it's 3-3/4lb.
It definitely doesn't look thin enough to be a splitting axe.
It's got a nice continuous taper to the head that might make it split well, but it's probably not made as a splitting axe.
Looks like a good compromise shape.

I just picked this up, and have been looking for a boy's axe head to hang on a new handle that I got from House handle. This head is in really great shape but there is no ID. The only markings are on the top and underside of the poll. One side is marked "2 1/2", the other is marked "DY". That's all.

I don't really care what the brand is in particular for this tool, I just want to know that it is a quality head before I waste a good handle on it. Thanks in advance to anyone who may be able to shed some light.

any more info on these? i looked at the thread a little but i couldnt find anything. I also got one of these DY boys axes while im down here.

also is anyone else getting these annoying photobucket ads?

Photobucket screwed everyone. "Free photo hosting and sharing" now wants $400 a year to "free" my pictures.
They alway were a pain and the site was full of spam and things running in the back ground. I just set up Google images but have not tried to post from it yet.
Anyone using something that works well and is simple for us that are not that good on a computer?

guys, scan your computers. i have a very strong feeling you have a virus now. unless this is legit.
yeah garry, imgur.com works.

It's legit. I'll say to heck with them although I'd like to say much stronger things. I posted a ton there that I didn't bother keeping on my phone, so looks like everything that I have ever posted here is going to be hidden forever. I only did it because they said free sharing. I even paid to upgrade my storage once. I think thst they are lighting their business in fire as we speak, because everyone will quickly find an alternative. Good.:thumbsdown:

let me see if i can go find them for you, if i can, finding everyone's pictures it gonna take a while

im back and thats a solid no on the getting pictures thing

I recently switched to the very simple and straightforward postimage.org which works great.
My only qualm with it is that I either can't or don't know how to post a full sized image to a forum.
For computers the images are big enough to see, but with a smartphone who will want to tap the pic to go to it in full size ?
Other than that it works great.
