It followed me home (Part 2)

They haven't followed me home yet but they do fascinate me. Can anyone tell me about these?

The larger one is known as a “slick”. It is basically a planer for timber framing joints. The other is a 1.5 or 2” timber framing chisel. Made for chopping out mortise and tenon joints and lots of other fun things. Price is a little steep looking but they are very very cool pieces.

And if they are both “white” brands they are very good steel. I believe that would put them in the late 1800’s. What state are u in?

Big old wood chisels! Boat building? Likely 120+ years old with Sheffield steel and Old World craftsmanship. Even if you never use them these are 'eye candy' prizes, and easily refurbished because they don't look to have been abused. If the price is right "jump".

Excellent info.
I may just need to make them an offer they can't refuse.

Here are some things I have acquired the last couple days. The Flint Edge boys ax cane from the bay. First time I have ever bought something from there. I got sick of waiting on finding one myself. For less than $30 shipped I had to get it. And it cleaned up very nice!!

Mr. Rust....
I have been beating the bushes for a vintage cleaver. I re-worked one for a friend and
got hooked. Nice photo....look like deep temper lines. The search continues.

Yes I have been lucky to find a few good ones lately. I am more into axes myself but when I see a cleaver at the right price I can’t help but get it. If anything these will be a good trade for someone.

Those Foster Bros cleavers never seem to show up out here at reasonable prices. My favorite chef knives are Foster Bros and I love their steel.

Nothing wrong with picking good axes off the bay. A guy can burn a lot of gas and time looking around. They are still mostly bargains.

Considering how many $5 rusty heads follow me home, I still find myself browsing. Sometimes a head calls to me and I'll buy as long as the price doesn't get silly.
Considering the quality of the vintage stuff we have it pretty good even if the bay is the only option. I will also buy a few here and there on the bay. Lots of stuff that I can't get local.
