It followed me home (Part 2)

I found this little guy today. TT BSA hatchet head. As you can see it had a metal handle which is no longer there. I’m guessing there is no way to rehang this but for $5 I couldn’t leave it behind.

Miller72 that is one bad ass saw!! What is that dB you got there?? And is that a wooden molding plane I see?? Or tongue plane for tongue and groove.
I bet if you got creative with some old steel handled golf clubs you could make a new steel haft for that... beautiful stamps on it!

This little guy followed me home 3 days ago. I almost left him in the drawer I found him in because in the dim light I thought he was a felling wedge! Now my 3lb Clean Cut has a buddy! The eye on this is NOT mis-shaped, just mushroomed from an idiot with a hammer beating on the eye. Does anyone have any info on when it was made and why it says "Fire Prevention" on it? @Operator1975 maybe?

Great find. Why can’t I ever find anything like that.

That's what I used to think as I scrolled through 400 pages of cool finds. Then I realized, it just takes time. This is the second embossed axe I have found in my 7-ish years of axe collecting....after 7-ish years of axe collecting. Both are DCH's Clean Cuts and both came from the same guy.... Hmm, (as Yoda) "Curious, this is."
Bonus! My other embossed axe.

That's awesome. I'd love to have found it!

Assuming it’s a 3.5 pounder, I’d say you’re right on the money, maybe 32”. I would look for a solid 32” “round” haft and octagon it myself. The octos I’ve ordered were disappointing. It takes 20-30 minutes to do a good job.

This little Kelly Perfect just showed up on my doorstep.
Considering a 30" octagon handle for her.
Your thoughts?

Groundhog Day was fun!

I need a bigger garage, more work benches and some TIME:cool:

Power hacksaw!!

You could power that with an old lawn edger. They use a horizontal haft not a vertical haft like a mower. Makes them easier to convert to driving a sheave to power most anything. Size the sheave for the rpm's you want. Or add an intermediate sheave to gear it up or down even more.

I bought this today for $20.

I'm fairly confident this is a Maine axe and it's old too. Do any of you recognize a makers name "in a box" that starts with an S? The rectangle has square corners. It's hard to see in person let alone in a photo but i tried.

You can see it has an overlaid bit. Weighs #3-7.1oz.

These ones really bum me out sometimes. If they just had a litttttle more that was legible!! I'm hoping one of you may recognize it. I've already searched through the Maine and New Hampshire manufacturers looking for it but no luck...

Just wanted to share my latest acquisition and to give a shout out to @jblittle. I clicked buy it now Friday night and received it today already!!!
I really like the shape of the head. Not sure what pattern you would call it. The poll isn't quite tall enough for a connecticut, not quite a dayton or michigan either. Maybe a yankee pattern? Measures 5" across the edge, bit to poll is 6 3/4", poll is 3" and weighs 3.25 lbs. I spent quite a while sharpening it and got it very sharp and the bit is quite hard also. had just a little mushrooming of the poll which I decided to file down.
Trying to decide what kind of handle to put it on. Thinking about a 28" straight handle, to make it a good chainsaw companion.
Thanks JBLittle!

That is a nice looking axe! It is a uniquely shaped head. Definitely not a yankee pattern though. Maybe a wide bit Dayton? Very interesting! I bet it'll become one of your favorites! Looks like it'll work extremely well.

i don't know. I think it's more of a Dayton/Yankee pattern. Pointed heel and toe. Doesn't have the deep eye of a Hoosier.

I can see why someone may think that is a Maine head, and it might be. But, part of my brain sees a Hult's Swedish head.

These are fresh from down under. I had to check them out and get pics before even taking them into the house.

That is a beautiful set of Aussie axes that you wouldn't garage sale find here in the US! The shipping alone from Australia/New Zealand keeps me at bay. They all come from the same fellow?

Whaaat!? Awesome man! I didn't know craftsman made a racing axe. Or Tasmanian pattern i guess? Those are sweet! I am truly envious!

I think in this case Craftsman isn't the maker, it's a quality tier/line of Hytest axes.
