I have a ryoba that's like that with a ripping side too. Great for making wedges and cutting the odd kerf in addition to all the other random trimming that needs to be done. Love how smooth they cut!

These are a couple of pics for Pegs or anyone else that would like to see them :)

Sweet. Those thin-kerf Japanese saws cut so effortlessly.

3. Walters
4. Welland Vale True Temper Black Prince
3. S.A.W
1. Garant

All have BC GOV/BCFS ( exception being the S.A.W they only have BCFS ) the Garant has full Canadian Government something that I have
only seen on one other well used Walters Puget Sound fallers pattern that I have.

One Walters and 2 Black Prince have Canadian Government on Haft, others have a branded F ↑ S on haft. They are all painted different colors something that I can only assume Identified them as belonging to different crews within the Forest Service.

That is one hell of a haul right there :)
WOW...
I can't wait to see them cleaned up.

I'm not sure how far I want to go with cleaning off the paint on some of them . I think that I may leave some of the
black and red ones alone to show how they were used day to day in the BCFS.

What are your opinions on cleaning them up ? Would you guys leave some the way they are and others get the over haul ?
I know that I have axes that I will never touch because I feel like I'm taking away from them if I clean or file them , others get the file or soak right
away, but with the paint on the bits I'm kind of torn because its not a natural patina, but it is how they were used at the time ?

Our local DNR does the same thing. It would be cool to leave at least one of each color scheme as is. It would be even cooler to find out which crews those once belonged to and keep that information with the axes.

Leave them all with their colors and you won't have to remember which belonged to which crew.
But I would leave the paint on all of them anyway: it retards rust and makes the axe harder to lose.

I like to preserve the history if I can. You got enough in that haul to leave some as is if you want. I have a peeling pattern Sager that has that green paint and F-tree-S stamp of the BC Forest Service that I'm keeping as I found it. Plus I have a couple USFS and old DNR stamped axes. A hundred years from now these may be important historical items. The local DNR got rid of all their double bits as unsafe a few years ago.

Todays find.

Top left is a no name with USA stamp. middle a no name stamped 3 1/2, right top is a True temper Vulcan Kelly works.
The hatchet is a Everkeen with Charleston and cast steel stamp most I can't make out. I think Kelly made these, it has a hardend poll forge welded. The DBL with some green paint is a True Temped Flint Edge,Kelly works cruiser. That dbl bit in the middle is one ugly hunk of metal (3lb 10oz) that says High speed steel company Greenbay Wis. Anybody know anything about these axes? The last one is a Collons & Co Legetimus.
A good day:o!

Were you at the flee market today?

Quite a haul, Garry. Lot's of nice axes. I'm drawn to that Flint Edge cruiser. It looks pretty fresh.

It is Square Pegs. Looks like it was around a auto mechanic(grease). The guy I bought them from had sellers remorse. He asked me to teach him somethings about axes and to be honest about them. I guess when I bought all he had he figured he was selling to cheap. He knows alot more than he did. He also ended up getting a collins cruiser back from me and my phone number to hook him up with a handle for it. It was hard to let go of that little collins but its all good.
