Someone just Sharked an L.L Bean Hudson bay from me on the bay, the thing looked near mind besides a din on the handle. I'm crying right now ..lol
That's ok though I have a few Norlund single bits I'm looking at, hoping to get lucky on at least one of them. Soon to be posted IF I get lucky.
I love seeing the stuff you guys find and restore, its amazing what you can turn some of these things into once you clean them up.
Thanks for all the inspiration and info guys.

I ran across a sweet LL bean Hudson Bay last year at a pawnshop. I didn't buy it at the time, I went back the next week to buy it and someone else had already gotten it :(

This may be a bit off topic but could anyone help me date and value a legitimus collins and czech made machete I was given? (I think early WWII, mostly I am interested in value) The black on the blade is dried on gunk and patina,(Seems to be dried sap) I haven't had a chance to clean them up as of yet. The legitimus collins feels like a very sturdy machete.
I was hoping to make a trade at a pawn shop for a good fixed blade of some sort. Help would be greatly appreciated.

As far as value on the Collins, I'd guess it might do $30-$50 on a good day. The condition is a bit rough (depends on how it cleans up but it looks pitted). The ones from the war that I have seen have a date stamp, and more importantly have a "US" stamp above the logo that indicates it was issued. I don't know exactly when they started or stopped using the date stamps though. The "US" stamp on yours may be the government stamp that indicates it was issued - at some point they were putting the country of manufacture there but those say "made in USA" (or Columbia later).

I got this very recently for $26 at ebay (which I feel was well below market however) and it has all the stamps and is in better shape. There are a lot there you can look at and watch what they sell for (which is the basis for my opinion as well).

Sorry if that is all bad news, but it looks like a keeper and a user to me.

No, not at all, thank you for the information! It helps. I was seriously debating keeping it, it feels to be very sturdy and well built, and still has a good bit of use left. I'd just rather have a fixed blade, maybe someone could put more time into it than I can. I think I'll sell it with a few other machetes I have for money/trade towards a Becker. Used to have a BK17, mine got stolen years back. Maybe I can instigate a trade at the local pawn.
A pawn shop will give you less than half what you would get at ebay.
True that, I was hoping to trade 5-6 machetes for a fixed blade. (I am pretty well acquainted with a guy that works at the pawn I stop in at when I am around that way) Definately not a bad idea, but I've never actually sold anything on Ebay before, so I'm afraid I don't know where to start as far as that goes. :D

I brought home a couple axes today. One is a Collins Homestead and the other is a Hults Bruk.

Both have decent handles but they need to be re-hung.

I'd guess the Collins is a 3 pound. It's on a 34-1/2" handle. The HB is about 2 pounds on a 29-1/2" handle so it's essentially a boy's axe.

I really like the looks of that HB!

I've got to get off my butt and hang some axes.
I finally got my handles from House. It took awhile, but I must admit that they are very nice

I thinking of doing a poll for one of the handles.
It would be a poll where as the forum members would choose what head to hang on my 'extra' 32" handle.
I'm torn between two heads... LOL...

Do one with a wide bit - at least 5".

The two that are for sure going on the other two handles both have bits over 5", so do the other two that I torn between for the last handle ;) :D

My 30" DB I got to put on a nice little Collins Legitimus 3lbder
That ones going to be SWEET :)

Paid $12 for this True temper Kelly Works.

After some wire brushing and sanding found an old Flint Edge mark with the outline of the old logo.
