It took a while, but one followed me home. Over all it is in really good condition. It need a new handle, but isn't a big deal. Now the fun starts with some research to find out what I can about it.

My grandfather gave me this stuff. I am excited about the draw knife and the planers.

That's fantastic. It's a great drawknife and those little block planes are super handy.

I hope I have a grandson to pass some things along to one day.

Have it read it yet, no. Have I found it and bookmarked it, yes. The line you quoted was the line that Google referenced when I searced for it. I got to looking at all the different logos instead of reading.

Thank you for the link.

I stumbled upon a few goodies today. No idea what this one was but it looked like it probably had a stamp.

And I've wanted one of these for a while.

I love getting these old rusty axes. It's like getting a Christmas present or a scratch ticket. You never know what you've got until you open it.

GAB under a crown and made in Sweden. Three and a half pounds. I've read that Gransfors Bruk made axes with GBA under a crown but did they also make axes with GAB? Or is this something else?

I here ya Pegs ;)
I've bought old 'rust buckets' on the auction site and at pawn shops to later find pleasant surprises underneath all the rust :D

I do believe your right about the GBA stamp being an old Gransfors

I think the GAB was the stamp that Gransfors used back in the day. Then they eventually changed it to GBA. So if i'm not mistaken, anything with the "GAB/ made in sweden" and crown, etc. pretty much means its a "vintage" Gransfors Bruks. Nice score!

Nice! I grabbed one of those recently (post #697 one page back) and have a double bit that needs a lot of work (#650 two pages back if you want to see it).

#52 is the flat handle version of the common #51 - it is supposed to be pretty agile. The #53 has an adjustable mouth which allows you to change the thickness of the shave without adjusting the blade depth. A number of woodworkers I read consider them the stand out among the Stanleys. It also has the desirable "Sweetheart" blade (IIRC ~1930's). . The blades are going to need to be tuned up but there is plenty left and the shoes are in really good shape. The one guy sticks the blade way out the bottom for his pics and it looks messed up but he is trying to just show you the edge. That makes it look like there is no blade left when you look in the other view, so no one but me bid :)

I think on this one none of the woodworker folks recognized "Simmons" the way axe people do, so again no one bid but me. :emot-yarr:
