nice stuff Pegs

Here's a few I picked up for $5.

Indecipherable Maine axe marked 3 3/4 as is typical on the face of the axe.

4# Mann axe. kept the original (well maybe after market) steep bevel on the bit. Can't imagine using this for anything other than splitting at 4 lbs

Those cleaned up nicely. How did you remove the rust, and keep that patina?

I was having trouble with these pics but I got them working again. This wedge pick is a super handy tool.

One further update on this claw hatchet. I rehung it on an 18" riggers axe handle. It feels and handles much better now and it chops better, too. It was just a little too clunky on that short handle.

Here's an interesting little tool I made to dig out wedges. It's just made from a scrap of unknown high carbon steel. I hardened it and tempered it back to purple. It's real handy. It's tapered to match the shape of a wedge.

What do you guys make of this? A full size Kelly Woodslasher head on a 19 inch handle. The whole package weights just under 4lbs and the handle looks like it could be original?

Looks like something along the lines of a miner's axe or house axe. Miner's axe is usually a little longer. House axe is usually a little lighter. This is a mix of the two. What's the eye size? Miner's axe has a full size eye. House axe has a boy's axe eye.

I like that a lot. In fact I am sure I need one.

that keen kutter boys axe and craftsman whatever are sweet. Just picked up a keen kutter in usable condition. Eager to give it a restore.

Nice stuff, looks like Operator is back at it. On the subject of "House" axes- I had a couple house axe handles that I bought a while back for a project that never panned out. Decided to put them to use with a couple of china 3 1/2 lb single bits. Some torch and grinder work .....instant house axe and hookeroon. The axe is just under 3lbs- hookeroon 18 oz.
Was prepared to re heat treat them but since a file still skates well- left them alone.
Will see how usefull they are.

I like your attitude about it. Might as well have fun with 'em.

I have enough axes, really, but-

The guy offered the council full-sized axe for $2. It would have been insulting not to take it, and anyway, my only other council is a 6-pouder on fiberglass.
It's hard to say what I got the homestead house axe for. It and a giant outdoor thermometer and the wrench in the picture and a drywall square were $5. (Also got a ca 7-ft by ca 2-in by ca .5-in piece of steel for $5 at that place- I can make two full-tang spears!:D)

That tool looks like it would be very effective - great idea.

Very nice haul.

Looking at the cruiser and boy's axes almost put me back on the 'bay. I was already trying to find a cruiser for my student who just finished his MS, but they are too hot I suppose due to the bushcrafter community fixating on them. Ah well, he isn't getting my Plumb cruiser or Kelly boy's axe regardless.
