I'm sure a regular hatchet or hammer handle will work though.

I don't know; the whole thing was scientifically designed for maximum striking power...
John Frankl, I think that is the original. I'll have another look at mine and see if pix might be edifying. You can also find the Popular Science ads for the tommies by searching in google books.

Thanks. I don't know if the handle on it now is original. Anyone?

I may even sell this one. Just not sure how much I'll use it. What's it good for? :)

If you end up selling it, I'd probably be interested in buying it.

You might could send it with the brush axe. ;)

Deoje, I'll email you on Sunday once I confirm the brush axe is still there:)

You're in for a nice summer, Operator!

I do keep my hand in on the 'bay. Picked up this Knot klipper for $16. It is really good condition. A chip in the bit but the poll is in remarkable good shape. The markings are crisp too. Nice geometry.

I picked this axe up today; mushrooming on the poll, chip on the blade, and a real goofy wedging with roofing nails...but an original 32" handle.

Here's that True Temper Flint Edge from above
I sandblasted the head, wire brushed it, and managed to salvage the handle. The handle came out okay and a few coats of BLO has the handle looking good. This was also the first hang I used dypropylene glycol (sp.?) on.

That's very interesting, the rasp tracks left behind. It's almost like a rifling, only not where you grip. It looks kind of nice.
I wonder if that old handle is sapwood.

picked up with a craftsman double bit for $20. Plumb house axe looks like. Geometry not great but be a good chopper for sure.

I just picked up a very similar plumb head that I rehafted with an octagonal boys axe handle from house. Great axe, I'll have to post some pictures.
