It followed me home

This followed me home today, a 6-1/4" blacksmith's leg vise. It weighs 142 pounds on my bathroom scale. My old 6" only weighs 85.

That should be about all the vise you would ever need. Bigger is always better with vices. Like the wedged U bolt also. Does it have a makers name?

This little hammer followed me home from my mother in laws. She is a sweet lady. About to turn 90 and is selling her home and moving closer to family. I looked through her tools for her and let her know what had value. Not sure what this is worth, but its worth a lot to me.

I think it says "Bryant" and the a "O". Know nothing about it, just liked it.

Cute little thing, ain't it? Weird that the socket doesn't go all the way through the head. The long integral strap is amazing.

First time I've ever seen a hammer with a mushroomed head! No wonder the claw was made so thick. I don't know if I'd be in a rush to use it but for sure it is a conversation piece.

Thats one way to look at it. The other way is to note that the claws are worn. It looks like they were used to chip concrete. And the head was used on hardened steel. Despite this the hammer and handle(which is original) survives. The thing is probable over a hundred years old. And has had much abuse. You would be hard pressed to find a little wooden handled hammer today that would take what this one has been through.
No, I think I will dress the head and claws, oil the handle, hang it on my peg board in the garage and use it for what it was designed for.

I bought an old drawknife, adz(needs new handle), boys axe(needs new handle), and an old one man crosscut saw it too needs a new handle. I will post pictures in a day or so.

You need to post them up on the web somewhere and then link to them here. Some guys use photobucket.

Found another 3.5lb Collins Legitimus Connecticut, this one though still has a good bit of the original polished finish under the rust. VERY excited on this one.
