Nice axe, the bits are in good shape and from what I can see the embossing is pretty clean. I was tempted to scoop it up just because I've never owned a Black raven double bit… but his price is way higher than what I'll pay for an axe (even a fancy one) and he didn't seem at all flexible on the price when we spoke.

Went to 3 estate sales and managed to find something old an rusty at each one. The best find was the plumb hatchet for $1, it was sitting in the wood pile outside the home. The handles on the vulcan and plumb are pretty shot unfortunately. I'll add a few more photos once I get things cleaned up a bit.

It's something that looks like a disston 6 TPI but it has the "Warranted Superior" badge on it. It was in good overall shape and priced well so I grabbed it.

I bought this large bucking wedge. 6-1/2" wide, 10" long, 8 pounds. Stamp says LIBA (?) and SYMOL.

That's a BIG wedge!!, isn't it? You have some of the most consistent success scrounging and buying nice old axe heads outta the lot of us "Square-Peg"! Good for you….
I've been jealous of that mint waffle poll rafting axe you got awhile back since you picked it up.

I am liking that vulcan.

From the land of big timber.

Yep. I figure this would have been used by some fellows cutting big wood with crosscut saws. To need a wedge this wide they had to be cutting big stuff. If one side of a 5 foot diameter log rolls a little as you're finishing the cut it can bind the saw and make for a lot of axe work to free it. A bucking wedge set perpendicularly across the kerf will prevent that.

Narrower wedges would have been used to keep the kerf open.

Very hard to read but says "Mann Edge Tool Co"

Unfortunately it is pretty banged up. Any way to save it?

This came home in a big batch a while back and I've been wondering what it was meant to be... Splitting Hatchet? It is about 1.5lbs and the eye is 1 1/8th" by 1/2" or so. Not sure what type of handle to put on it, seems like a lathing hatchet handle is the closest overall dimension.

The next was a from that large auction site for about $10. weights ~ 2.2lb.

Looks pretty solid. You're gonna need to remove a fair amount of material to get the bit back in shape.

I just picked up a hewing hatchet, a hewing axe, and a WWII survival hatchet. But, the handle fell off when I came home. I`ll post pictures sometime tomorrow...
