It you could only have 1 knife...?

Based on what I have this week before SEBENZA I would take:
1. EDI Genesis
2. Buck 110 Master Series
3. Leatherman WAVE

Sharpener: Lansky system

Of course all my back issues of Blade, TK and KI would come along.

Assuming this will occur in the next 15 minutes, I'll take the following out of "inventory":

Fixed - Chris Reeve Aviator - strong, light and sharp.

Folder - Chris Reeve Sebenza - see above.

Tool - Leatherman Wave - all the useful tools plus locking blades and a wood saw.

Sharpener - Red plastic "balisong" diamond rod.

Firearms - S&W .22 Kit Gun - small, light, very accurate, lots of ammo. S&W 686 .357 - when you just need "a little more." 38/357 ammo should also be scroungable.

Now if I had a few days to really plan...

This was a tough one.
I'll have to remember not too ask such difficult questions. Put a lot of thought into it. Spent a long time trying to convince myself that my Puma bootknife would make a good skinner. I really wanted to bring my Buck Ranger, can't imagine anything that would hurt it. But to be practical, I figured fixed blades had be to more rugged.
So here it is:
-Cold Steel Tanto with kydex sheath (for the tough stuff)
-Ithaca Track drop point (4" sturdy blade) an oldie, but a goodie
(A Spyderco Moran would have filled this slot nicely but I don't have one...yet)
Note to self: Buy Spydie Moran before collapse of society.
-Standard Leatherman (cause it's the only one I have)
As I said before, I find an Arkansas stone works best for me on all knives.
Of course I'll need some place to keep the stone. Luckily, my sling has a pouch that will fit it nicely. Luckier still, that sling is attached to my 12 gauge Ithaca Lightweight Turkey gun.
That should handle things too big for the Tanto.
See, bcaffrey, there are other ways to slip extra weapons under the wire without having your dog carry them.

Everyone, thanks for the great answers and if anyone feels the need to add some 12 gauge sharpening stone carriers to their list, feel free.
Then of course there's the Spyderco Delica tie clip (you never know who you'll meet at an Apocalypse)

well, I'd bring 2 Jaguar Balisongs and my Leatherman Ssuper Tool. I want something to do so i'd flip the knives around 'til i died if starvation.... good times...

Since this is my thread, I've been keeping an eye on it.
I just read all my "insights".
Geez, I'm a wordy bastard!
How can I still be a junior member ?
Doc

I'd bring my trailmaster, small sabenza and
van hoy skinner.......you really need to bring an axe too.....sharpener would be a gatco with diamond stones

there is always at least one wise a-- in the bunch...but to tell you the truth....with my 45 and my fat bbl ar....who needs a knife..and if i do...i can take one off of anyone i see......and what planet do you come from where you can only have 2 knives. this isnt back to the future part 2...

I'd shine my Photon 2 at the guy with the 45,
he'd probably think it was the police and run off, I'd hold on to my,

EDI Genesis
Spydie Moran
and Micra(don't have a Wave yet)

No flashlights Walt?

...another interesting thread with a tough question.

Big one: HI Ang Khola khuhri
small one: One of my Talonite blades (Simonich Wambli or Rinaldi Chimera)
Multi-tool: Gotta go with my trusty SAK over these new fangled multi-tools
Sharpener: Spyderco Sharpmaker
Firearm: I agree with Walt that a 22LR is a best bet but given my Ruger pistol is all tricked out for matches with a red dot and all and my sole 22LR rifle is a Remington 513T weighing in at over 9 pounds, I'll go with my custom Browning Hi-Power. 9mm ammo is plentiful although I can't carry as much as I could if I took a 22LR.

I did NOT escape from the institution! They gave me a day pass!

1st choice: Busse Battle Mistress
2nd choice: Chris Reeve's Project1

P.S. Is there anyway I could change my default blade forum password??

Bob

Fixed blade....Either a HI Kukhri, or a Mad Dog Short Sword.....Time to start saving my sheckles if I am gonna have my toys by Y2K..

Folder.......I would like a 6" drop point rolling lock folder, but NO ONE F*****G MAKES ONE!!!!! ......grumble......

Multi Tool...that is easy, Leatherman Super Tool with hex bit adapter.

Hmmmm, EDMF Trench Bowie, Crisswell BarracudaII and Gerber Multilock. With a small EZ Lap taped to the sling of my Rem.870 "riot gun". Now can I pick again for the second day of TEOTWAWKI?

Leatherman Wave. It has a plain edge, a toothy edge, and scissors, and tools to fix things. I'll do without the corkscrew, since in that scenario a bottle of wine would be best used as a barter good.

In pure knives, I'd want one of my hand-made knives (4"-5") on my belt, and a good one-hand folder. I'd be tempted by something fast, like an Axis Lock or a Spyderco Military, but I'd probably want an integral lock like a Chris Reeve or a Benchmade Pinnacle, since there's no place for grit to lodge and disable the locking mechanism.

For the belt knife, maybe I should go out to the workshop and make a 6" chef's knife from 3/16" stock, for a stout knife that would also work well in food preparation. I don't see much thought to food preparation under primitive conditions in a lot of the choices above, but you'll be doing more of that than knife fighting.

For heavy work I'd take a camp shovel and a hatchet in my pack, and for a weapon I'd take one or more guns of some sort.

Man, what a tough question. While no single knife is "perfect" for all possible uses, there are three that I'd feel very confident in handling all of the situations I could imagine.

- Leatherman Wave (or SuperTool)
- Chris Reeve Sebenza
- Bob Dozier Yukon Pro Skinner

However, since I always carry one or two knives on me, I'll go with whatever I have when the moment comes. Let's just hope we never have to make such a difficult choice for real!

Well I dont think Id choose any folding knives...too much that could go wrong. Id go with the following...
1. Busse Battle Mistress
2. Buck 119
3. Swisstool
