It you could only have 1 knife...?

(One knife, from the current selection)
Hartsfield Katana.
End of the World is an odd scenario. For the first few months (or weeks, maybe even days) I'd want something devestatingly "personal defensive". Later I'd want a skinner and general purpose knife.

Say, if anyone has the time, maybe it would be neat if they could summarize the multitude of responses (just a count of which knives/tools were picked & how many "votes" they got).

Ok, from whats on hand:
Puma Waidblatt
Dozier Skinner
Gerber Multi Tool
DMT Hone(blue)
folding military shovel (I'm not digging with my knives)...
And since were all taking a gun, 7mm.08 Rem. Mod.7, scoped of course..(if you can use a shotgun, their to close.....)

From my modest collection:
Puma Waidblatt
Dozier Skinner
Gerber Multi Tool
DMT hone(blue)
Folding shovel,(why dig with my knife)
and since everyone is taking a gun, Rem. Mod.7 in 7mm-08, scoped...(If you can use a shotgun the're to close...)

Re-reading this long thread, James Mattis' post really struck home. Clean, potable water would be a top priority.

You are probably familiar with the myriad of devices from straws to cannisters and pumps, for purifying water. Most all of these work well.

There is a simpler technique, however, Betadine (tm) SOLUTION (NOT SCRUB; the scrub has soap in it) is available over the counter, and is a good wound cleanser (dilute to 1 part Betadine (tm) in 10 parts clean water).

You put 10 drops of Betadine (tm) SOLUTION in one liter of water. This kills bacteria, viruses, amoebas, and Giardia. It is widely used outside the US for water purification, but the manufacturer is not interested in selling small amounts for this purpose in the USA. It is easier than carrying around the Iodine crystals, and doubles as a wound disinfectant.

If I ever get a fixed blade model....Chris Reeve Shadow IV in place of the Military.

Dear AJ,
I'm new to the forum, but where I work, you would just have volunteered to tabulate the data.
Can't wait for the results.
Thanks
Doc

From what is on hand . . .
Junglee Military Bolo
Bob Dosier's Guide Knife
Buck tool
Mini Thirty

Bill

I'd have to have:
Busse Battle Mistress
Large Sebenza
REKAT Pioneer Drop Point.

The gun I'd take would be a .22 LR, for the same reasons (carry a bunch of ammo). Picking the "right" .22 would be difficult as i have over half a dozen of them.
I would likely end up with my Thompson Contender with a 14" barrel and 4X scope.
True it's a single shot, but it can pop an egg at 100 yards.
If I needed a bigger gun, well, I'd just have to take someone elses.
Bill

I would have to have the following:

1. Chris Reeve Sebenza
2. Mad Dog AZ Hunter
3. Swiss Tool
4. Spyderco Sharpmaker

Would bring the Wave, but I am still not sure of its survivability.

Doc,

I'd love to! I should have some time this weekend, so look for the results by Monday morning.

AJ

I have several knives in my long range/long time bugout pack..., but the two primary knives are a CS Trailmaster, and a Dozier Personal Companion..., along with a Leatherman PST.

I've been waiting for over two months, for a Mad Dog ATAK, which will replace the Trailmaster..., and I may swap in my Dozier Pro Guide for the Personal Companion.

Doc,

No problemo!

AJ

PS. I've started the tabulations... looks like the 2 clear champs will be the Leatherman SuperTool and the Chris Reeve Sebenza... almost twice as many votes as the next most chosen knives/tools.

Here are the results! As you can see, the Sebenza and SuperTools are the overwhelming vote getters. Leatherman far and away wins the "most votes for any manufacturer" award, with Chris Reeve second and Mad Dog third. Some very interesting results!

Dear AJ,
Beautiful job!! That must have taken quite a bit of time.
I think I'll just print it out and use it as my shopping list.
smile.gif

Seriously, I want to check out that Dozier Yukon Skinner, it got an awful lot of votes.
Thanks, from all of us
Doc

Cold Steel Trailmaster
EDI Genesis
Leatherman Wave

I could think of many other combinations that would appeal to me as much but these would do for a first round shot. It's been fun reading the many responses.
