It's the 22nd!

Just checked my order status and it has changed to awaiting shipment. So shouldn't be to long now.

Is that really what it says or does it say "awaiting fulfillment"?

I'm not calling you a dirty, rotten liar, I just never saw my status marked that way. Mine all seemed to go directly from Awaiting Fulfillment to Shipped.

i can't wait for people to start getting their 4.7s because that means i'm that much closer to sharking one on a monday or picking up a catch and release. I just hope i am lucky when the fateful monday arrives.

Hmm... I guess DISC0 isn't a dirty, rotten liar like I said he was :D

Dang it............. now I'll have to compulsively keep checking my 4.7 status................. :)

I was able to snag one of the 3v F-2nd 5.1s as well. Earlier today it was awaiting fulfillment and now it's awaiting shipment. Not sure what their workflow is or how the 3v holdup on the 5.1s will impact the 4.7s, but you might be seeing it change soon. We'll just have to wait and see.

Not trying to get S!K to change, but suggesting another possibility. The "every 2 weeks" operation that is currently going on over at the Busse side. Instead of having months long pre-orders (or however long they go), have a pre-determined number of a particular knife you are planning to do for a "run." Post it up that pre-ordering is opening on a specific date, an will only be open until a specific date, or until the (unspecified but predetermined) number of knives are sold. Then you have a few number that you are trying to do from a pre-order, so that they can be delivered more quickly. Still pre-orders, but it should give you a little more breathing room. That way is sorta the middle ground. You could still have the Monday piranha pit (I like that!) for knives already made but unaccounted for. Anyway, just throwing that out.

Has it been determined that you, S!K, are completely going away from the pre-order option? Is the every Monday sales going to be the ONLY way to get a S!K knife? Because as I've alluded to before, I'm warming to the idea of pre-orders, even paying up front, and knowing that it will be months before I actually get the knife. Especially now that I know that it can be MONTHS before I get the knife. ;)

I am not sure what their order of doing things is: if they get orders then produce the knives or if the blades are done, then they get orders, then put them together. But I can't imagine it is so different from our Monday release plan. We have the blades mostly finished, get orders for them, build/pack/ship. I spent some time looking at their model last night and I still don't really understand it because they don't seem to have any information about it. To be honest, I'm kind of having a hard time figuring out why so many people are ok with that but not this. The only difference I see is that we are going to be able to deliver faster, once an order is placed. I have no idea what sort of numbers they are actually putting out so I can't even begin to compare that; nor do I want to compare numbers with them or any other company. We really don't pay that much attention to what other companies are doing because we prefer to do what makes sense for us. Every company different. I will say that they have been in business longer than I have been alive. As have the other companies that have been listed here. Creating a company's unique culture takes time. They also had a chance to grow organically by going to shows and promoting their product. Social media worked a little (or rather a lot) too well for us.

We don't particularly like the backlash associated with doing preorders so we would prefer not to do them anymore. No matter how many places say it is a preorder or what we say about delivery timeline we still receive a lot of backlash. As far as limiting the preorders placed, we would still have the same issue of availability. Most of our existing preorders are from the first few days of the SURVIVE! Starter. Limiting the time or number available wouldn't change anything.

The crazy long hours to keep the lights on, the sacrifice of a personal life. That's a consequence of this business plan. Nothing wrong with that, you guys are right on track.

Again I apologize for making my suggestion out of place. In my mind, when I am old and looking back at my life, I will be saying "I wish I spent more time with my son." I won't ever say, I wish I spent more night's at the office. I forget that not everyone thinks like that.

You just heard from a guy who went through this with someone with a small business. I went through it too. I kept prices low to have the best quality at the lowest price and get my name out there. It almost killed me working 100+ hours a week to meet demand and turning work away because there was no time to build anything else. As my reputation grew with my customer base, I raised my prices and now I only do limited work at a premium price. But I provide the highest quality I know how to build. Customers will pay a premium for high quality. That is proven all over the knife world.

The long work hours are exactly why we are moving to the Monday releases. We have looked at costs and prices and break even points, etc. Right now we are working on preorders and regular orders and we are having no trouble keeping the lights on and production moving. Once existing preorders have been fulfilled we will have more leeway on how we spend our time. That is going to alleviate a lot of stress, which means Guy will actually be more productive. We are going to be releasing more knives than before; just on a weekly basis, rather than one huge batch every few months.

It is uncommon but there is an awaiting shipment option. Today they are like that because I was able to get in there and do final QC, but I wasn't sure if Christian would be able to have them packed up in time for our 4pm deadline. They should change to shipped tomorrow, once they get packed and labels are printed. We may be using that more often in the future. Our output has increasing substantially with the machines all actually working and the Monday sales up and running. I expect it to go up even more once Guy has all the CPM-3V GSO-5.1 blades through the touch-up step. There were enough of them with those small dings that he decided to do the entire batch, a process which is very time consuming. Fortunately, all of the other blades we have seen so far won't need an extra step.

Thanks for all your sincere feedback Ellie. I appreciate it.

Just gonna comment one last thing.

The Monday release method and ensuing discussion has not made me change my mind about dealing with S!K for my next couple knives. I'm still going ahead with purchases, just not exactly as I originally planned :)

What he said... just wish I had fun money enough for all the knives I'd like to buy. Trying to figure out how to scrounge up enough dough to get a 3.5 on pre-order before the 29th...

Good to know . I can't wait to get my 2nd in hand. I was one of the few quick draws to get a 3v.

Yes I did as well, just happen to check for the 5th time at the right time that day.

I have been called worse by some women in the past, but no I was not lying to you all. I wouldn't be that mean when so many are anxiously waiting.

My point with the Busse method is I perceived it as a pre-order, but it is a much more limited number of pre-orders (I perceive) than what you get stuck with now. So, you wouldn't be tasked so hard. I wasn't so much saying that it is better for me or the customers, but better for you, in theory. Although, I get the impression that it IS more knives produced from their pre-order method than from the Monday sales you've got going. So, maybe a happy medium between the Monday piranha pit and full-on pre-orders.

So, if you're going away from pre-orders, I guess you're saying I need to get my pre-order in for a GSO-8 NOW! eh? ;)

At this point, I'm full on board with you and Guy trying to step away from the current business model and the harassment. Was just throwing out something that, like I said, seemed might be a happy medium. And not trying to convince you to change your model. Just ideas.

But really, why change anything immediately anyway? You've only had the one (or is it two now?) Monday Piranha Pits. See how that changes things up.

Thanks, Ellie! Your input is always appreciated.

Ha! You and me both ;)

I was just giving you a hard time, Ellie clearly backed you up

In my line of work if people are not giving you a hard time then they do not like you, I can take some serious ball busting. so no worries

True. I have personally contributed a few posts regarding how S!K run their business. Some may think it's ball busting but I personally felt that I am saying what I am saying because I like S!K a lot and is worried about whether they can cope if this supply and demand issue goes on. I really want to see the company grow, or at least sustain for decades to come.
