Japanese exotic steels

Hey Sal, just saw a Japanese Gyuto in SRS-15 at a knife shop that needed repairs after being dropped had a big dent rather then a chip. Not bad for 64hrc and ~0.010 behind the edge.

I think that stuff is my top pick.

Stainless cruwear!

YXR7 or Cobalt Special

In a Gayle Bradley design. The two of you know how to make knives that cut like lasers.

hi sal,i just got into using the japan made steels and find the ZDP-189 and the hitachi aogami super blue vary interesting, and love the way it patinas with no help!would be grate to see more caly's made in the super blue, they could even be made in more sprint-runs!really loving the caly 3,one of my best fitting in the EDC role to date,is it true that this is the knife you most carry!thank you.:)

Considering Spyderco already did an Aogami Super sprint run and has production runs of ZDP-189 I can't see any reason to do them again. The whole point of a sprint is to have something different.

Hi Rolf,

Eric's working very hard. Sometimes I think too hard, but I believe it might be a genetic disorder. I'm getting slower as I get older.

Sal- You taught Eric well but I will go along with the genetic disorder.
Eric- Save some work for the next day.
thanks,
rolf

I have an srs 15 gyuto that I have had good luck with, it would be fun to try in a few pocket knives.
My first choice would be yxr7 though. It has been on my radar for years but the only rockstead I had was a Hizen in zdp 189 so the chance to try a steel with a good dose of tungsten would be welcome.

Super Gold 2. Just cuz I love the name LOL. And doesn't Onion use it in his personal knives? Must be good!
