Sorry to hear you were ripped off this little bastid Brad.
He's been found out over on British Blades and banned from the forum by the owner thanks to your thread here if it's any consolation.
This probably isn't one of your knives he was selling over there but might be from someone else he scammed...

Might help with your Paypal case
Hope you get your funds back.

If everyone says you should call immediately then...Well there's your sign.

Pull your head out. The people at PayPal aren't vicious and evil and they'll probably be ON YOUR SIDE.

I'm sure everyone will say I should go ahead and call immediately anyways, but here's my reasoning for not calling PayPal yet:

I don't have the remaining five hundred dollars to pay back in my bank account right now. I'm afraid that when I call PayPal, they will immediately close the case upon me telling them I don't have any records of the shipment. Then they will proceed to take the five hundred dollars out of my bank account, which has a balance of four dollars. I want to wait until Monday when i have the money to put into my bank account, that way it doesn't cause me a huge overdraft at my bank. I'm not doing very well financially at the moment, and I need a couple days before they take that money out of my bank account, which im nearly positive they will do, regardless of what I have to say. I don't expect anyone to understand. But that's my explanation for what it's worth

From what I know, Paypal doesn't take money out of your bank on a dispute. They can't take from your bank account unless it's specifically instructed by you to do so in a transaction, like when you pay and they say that the money will be paid from your account and you click "continue."

Even if they were to rule against you, the -$500 is to your PP account. It means that if you get money paid into your PP account after that, they take it from that payment to make up for the -500 until it's no longer negative. Scammers on the other end, who get money but won't send, will transfer the PP money from their account into their bank, keeping their total PP balance at zero or very low. Then when the buyer who hasn't received his stuff makes a claim and PP puts a hold on the scamming seller's account, they just move on and open a new PP account. PP wouldn't be able to take the money back.

So Brad, man up and contact PP. I'm getting as pissed at you for whining and not doing anything about it as I am at the scammer.

OK, everybody together now.....CALL PAYPAL!!!!

You've got plenty of info to back you on this thread and from the members of the other forums who have chimed in.

Here's a few of his recently banned user names. He was active on the balisong forum, and there are a few pictures of him, probably in links to these names. He contacted me after some on these bans, assuring me he was an angel but someone else was misusing his stellar reputation.

So let me get this straight, someone can reach into your (or anyone they've bought from) Paypal account weeks after a finalized transaction and snatch their money back? Certainly there has to be a process via Paypal to do this involving proof and or documentation on his part.

If this is where Paypal is nowadays after already absorbing what they do with every transaction, it's less and less my pal.

Sorry about your trouble. Maybe calling this person out via pm's and email will allow for resolution here.

Prof.
Yep, Paypal Is usually favors the "Buyer" and will refund money until a resolution is made. I had the same thing happen with a bike I sold on ebay. I know when paying, any mention of the word "Balisong" paypal will suspend the transaction. Good Luck Bro.

I am told that the way to protect yourself with international transactions is to be certain to use a shipping service that meets PP's standards for tracking. That way you have proof of delivery to fight any dispute. So you have to use USPS Global Express, nothing less. Plus insurance, of course. It will cost ~$35 - 40 to Canada. Just tell any buyer that that is the only way you will ship international.

Definitely insure and track any package. Another thought is to get paid with a Canada Post Money Order made out in US dollars. Takes PayPal out of the deal.

This is not true.
USPS priority is trackable and confirm delivery, and USPS Express is Trackable with signature and $100 insurance included. Priority small flat rate is not trackable door to door. Global express is more than $35-40.

There is a time-limit for credit card companies to allow a dispute. Go after PayPal big time. Also, if the item was mailed, this could be mail fraud in Canada. Contact Canadian postal authorities.

^^This is correct. Any USPS Priority Mail International service except the Small Flat Rate Box and Flat Rate Envelope comes with international tracking, as does any USPS Express Mail International service (including the Express Mail Intl. Flat Rate Envelope).

I really can only reiterate what others have said about contacting PAYPAL... do it now as you need to get out in front of this. They will NOT take the $500 out of your bank account (unless you authorise them to do so), I have been on the other side of such an issue and they told me they can only take what is in the paypal account and not what has been transferred or exists in a linked account. YOU have not lost your money BUT a lack of response on your part within the 10 day period could well see you do so....get on the phone/e-mail NOW....!!! The rest of your arguments against doing so do not hold water. If you think people are being harsh or pointed with you it is probably because they DO NOT want to see you loose out. Now....in my best caring Aussie manner I have to tell you to go take a spoon full of concrete and harden the %uck up, get on the system and throw this little turd under a bus...there appears to be ample evidence available to support your position that he is a scam artist....doing nothing lets him beat YOU....!!!

Now...as to shipping. I get LOTS of gear shipped to me from the US, I am pretty new here but have already established myself with several members and I like to think I have a bloody good reputation on other forums as well as e-whore (for what that is worth). There are plenty of ways that a shipment from the US can be tracked internationally via the USPS. Their tracking function will show and item from the Post Office to me signing for it along with the packages movement through sort facilities in the US and here as well as in an out of Customs...!! That is not limited to the express service, you are not paying for tracking with that but speed of delivers. Priority (as has been pointed out) also lets you track just the same way and even first class post will show the item as lodged for delivery in the US. Sorry rant off.... needing to do this so often it is a bit of a bugbear of mine when people wont ship here (as is their right) for no reason other than not understanding the safeguards that can be put in place for both parties.

Andy :)

OK guys, nuff said. I was going to anyways, but I plan 100% to call paypal first thing monday morning when I wake up. I honestly doubt it will do me any good at this point, but its worth a shot. I will keep every one informed on how it goes, but don't get your hopes up. I know I'm not. I know you guys are just trying to help, and thanks to all for the support. It's nice to know I have so many friends and people on my side.

Oh jeez where do i begin! these certain individuals based on the name piss me off! I do hope everything goes well! Please tell me you get your funds back. Everytime I try to give Canadians a chance they fail.

Like the other's have said, call and call and call. I know PayPal can't allow this to happen or no one would be able to do business with them if charge back's were that easy over that period of time.

Wow, Glock26 that is a bold statement.

BigBrad....I hope this works out for you. Bottom line....track your package folks. Always be sure and you will never have to worry.

I would really hate to see this turn into a "Canadians are bad thread." I have quite a few Canadian friends that are good people. Back to the subject. Brad good for you deciding to call Paypal. There are so many things wrong in this thread including the time limit to the credit card company that I think you have a moral obligation to fight this simply because it's the right thing to do. There seems to be enough links from here and other sites to lay a good solid framework to anyone that this guy is no good and has showed a pattern of just this type of behavior. I wish you the best of look in getting a positive outcome to this situation.

The simple fact that his alleged backdoor PayPal actions torqued you off enough to start this thread should be a no-brainer in the "I'm gonna do something about this SOB ASAP"....department. When things feel bad, real bad......it's generally time to take care of business. You're well past the woman's coffee hour where senseless chatter and group hugs helps you to realize your desired outcome.

I'd say that this guys antics and scheming tactics got you a bit fired up in a real hurry. Time to return the favor......actually, several days later than I might have waited. There's no time like the present and the present in this matter was well before you started this thread........just sayin'.

Best of luck tommorow with PP. Please let us know the outcome as I'm sure that most, if not all of us, would be very much interested in PP's response and the eventual outcome of this matter.

I'm all about "what goes around......." and "karma" and such, but in cases like this, I'm thinking that being the impetus for either would be most satisfying.
