I think there is sometimes a fine line between dealer and collector/hobbiest. Melton relayed a good story earlier about find an awesome deal on knives that he used to sale to further his collection. To me, that doesn't make him a dealer. If a collector buys some knives, and they appreciate in value, and are later sold/traded to further other hobby interests, does that make him a dealer? Same as we have seen threads posting in general about the "deal of the cenutry" some folks have come across when buying knives at pawn shops, thrift stores, garage sales, etc... I was walking around a gun/knife show about a year or so back. Found a fairly unknown maker that was making very nice and high quality folders. He had 2 of one particular model laying on his table that caught my eye. While I was looking one of them over, he told me he was no longer making that model, and he wanted to get rid of the last 2 pieces that day at the show. He offered me my pick of knife for $100, a knife that was selling through a well know internet dealer for $400. A couple of weeks later, there was another knife coming out that I wanted much worse then this one for $225. So I turned and sold the knife for $225 to buy the other blade. I don't see that is being a dealer, I see that as being a smart collector. If selling a knife that appreciates in value for more money they paid for it(especially on the secondary market) then all the Ususal Suspects and Biohazard nuts would be paying dealer memberships here.
