Any time I have the pleasure of sharing a phone call with my buddy Jerry Halfrich and he tells me about a new model that I "might" like, I know that I should hide my wallet, stick my fingers in my ears and hum a few bars of something distracting. Unfortunately, this technique is yet to work.
Jerry mentioned to me that he had used the Case Copperlock pattern as the inspiration for a new model, the prototype of which he had just completed.
The prototype is a shadow in black linen micarta with a blade of CPM-154 sporting Jerry's nonpareil edge. Like the original Copperlock, this model comes in at a hair over 3.5" and weighs in at a trim 1.75 ounces. Unlike the original, the current knife sports a killer (swedged) drop point blade...and...is actually hand filling due to how Jerry has shaped and fit the micarta covers. While I have always enjoyed the classic Copperlock, my main gripe was that it was too "thin" in cross section to really feel entirely comfortable. This knife takes the concept to a whole new level.
While speaking with Jerry this evening I told him that the beauty of this knife lies in the fact that it is attractive (and people friendly) enough for an evening in town while being rugged enough for chores on the homestead. I suggested the name "Town & Country" for the knife and Jerry liked the idea.
So, here are a few images of the new "Town & Country" model from Jerry Halfrich. By the way, Jerry mentioned to me that he plans on building the larger version of this knife (like the large Copperlock) and to build it with bolster, cap and upscale covers as well.
