Jim Adams Customs Knifemaker

I too bought a Ti/Damascus framelock from Jim.I wasn't happy with the F&F.
I contacted Jim right away stating I wanted a refund.
It took a few days after he received it to issue the refund.

Mr. Adams has the right idea as far as his folders go.He just needs to work on the refinement process. It almost looks like he did some of the finishing with a file. The action was gritty & the blade wasn't centered.
I was actually amazed that he would let it leave his shop in that condition.
I HATE to throw a maker under the bus,but I'm just calling it like I seen it.

Sir, What do you suggest? I have not done anything wrong. I have honored my Warranty. Thank you.

I'd suggest you either need to say you'll stop sending out sub-par knives, apologize, or simply refrain from commenting, at all. Repeating "thank you" over and over again to criticism makes it look like you are being sarcastic towards the comments about your knives. Be honest, those are knives you would love to own? For $300?

As a casual observer Mr. Adams I am interested in how it got to them in that condition and I would venture to think that others reading this thread might as well. Not trying to stir the pot here, just think that an explanation could go a lot further in serving your good reputation rather than just saying thanks and send it back. It really is none of my business so I will bow out.

Please call me Jim. Mr. Adams is my dad.

Send what back? I have refunded the OP's Money, on Feb, 10 2011 the day before his post. As you can see in the image below.

Jim- nobody was running you down IMOP, just stating that the quality of product is not what this community calls adequate for the price or what is accepted here. It is hard to get this kind of criticism (my kydex sheaths have been called disgustingly ugly on here. It can be hard to be objective about what we create out of love and have a vested interest in. I'm sure that you care about your knives, after all you came here to face the fire, which I give you credit for. You have not hidden like so many others do, and that is a good thing. Don't take it personal, learn from what others have said here and strive to improve on the areas that need work. THe design seems solid to me, so a bit of fit and finish improvements would do a lot in increasing your good name. To me the blade scratches are the major fault that sticks out to me- if the blade isn't finished well it detracts from the whole knife- as I have found on all of my own knives and is the major area I wish to improve on.

Good luck in the future sir and keep improving and one day this thread may be seen as a major turning point for you- as long as you wish it to be one.

Kris, This was a bashing of my character and nothing less. Don't sugar coat it.

This from the last folder I sent out. This is the same folder I sent Eric.

Re: Folder I Purchaced from You

Hi Jim,
I just recieved My knife, and I have to say that I really like it. There are a few scratches in the handle, but that just gives Me something to do. I really like the size, and I love the damascus blade. I think that this blade will be My companion for sometime to come. Are there bearings on the pivot of this blade? It looks like red washers. Nice job on the sharpening, the bevel looks to lend itself to a strop.
Respectfully,
C

I am done.

I am done.

Even the guy you quoted stated that there were scratches in the blade. No one was bashing you personally, they were giving you criticism that would hopefully help you improve your product. The sarcasm and defensiveness lend nothing to your character.

In all honesty I believe most people would be apalled if they payed 300 or more dollars for a knife that has scratches all over the blade. You can obviously do better, it's not like you don't have the skill.

Despite the setbacks and obvious learning opportunity here, I'm rooting for Jim Adams to pull ahead and come out even better in the near future.

There are improvements abundant that should be addressed. But I think see a man who's up to the job.

^^^ EDIT: I'm completely wrong. Time has proved this to us.

Sir, Did you see the knife that was sent to the OP? The OP never stated there were scratches on the knife. Why are you commenting on something that you have no personal knowledge of?
I can do better than what? There were no scratches on the blade PERIOD.
