Joe Allen Knives

Another beauty Joe. Someone is going to get a stunning knife that should make them very happy.

I have a pre-Civil War Joe Allen. Maybe he is an ancestor of yours? He has a really interesting history and someone actually made a Wikipedia page for him:

Hi Matt, I was thinking about you last night . I remember you showing us the little knife with the Stag rubbing off from wear, I have some nice Red stag horn with lots of popcorn bubbles ,which would look good on the little knife, I would redo the Stag for free if you could send it to me an I would pay return shipping, I know it is costly to Australia. Send me Pm if you want. ------Joe.

Great job Joe! Fit and finish looks excellent :thumbsup: I'm a fan of the old vintage folding hunters, you knocked it out of the park with this knife :thumbsup:

Hi to all , I have been working part time on this big Folding Hunter for a while and finally got it done , just some bolster cleaning before i ship it out. This Beast measures almost 9 1/2 “ open and 5 3/8” closed. It has Redwood Burl for wood , it was supposed to be stabilzed says the person who sold it to me , But it felt very light an dry ,so I dryed it in oven to make sure it was dry and put all the Redwood I bought from this dealer in my stabilizing tank an it bubbled up like crasy, so much for that guys stabilization. Run the motor for 2 hours left the pressure on over night an another 2 hours next day, then put them back in oven to dry for a while. But this monster came out ok. Blades are on the soft side opening ,but do have good snap in both positions. CPM-154 steel at 60-61 final rc. Hope you enjoy seeing these old classics once in a while. God Bless Everyone an stay healthy.

Thank you Gben for the inquiry, I have no relatives that I know of who made knives, there was the Joe allen out of England back in the 1800’s who made knives ,but not sure if it was your J.H. Allen. Thank you for the Info.

Thanks again Rockman, between house repairs an wood needing spilt and grass cutting two different properties in another county, I do try an get some knife time in. So don’t give up on me , I’m like the Turtle an the Rabbit, I might be slow but I usually cross the finnish line with a knife once in a while. Look again towards end of month. Thanks to all -God Bless Us All in this Time of Disruption.

What you see here is my rendition of the WW2 Servicemens Jungle chopping knife called a Smachett. the AtS-34 steel blade is right at 9 “ from tip to the Black Linen Handle Scale. The over all length is 14 1/2”. I made this in my 20th year as a knife maker in 1996 an have never used it ,just put it in and out of the sheath a few times over the last 24 years. Well collectors might like this if they don’t have and original. You can see more in the knifemakers for sale area under straight knives. Thank you for looking an hope you enjoyed seeing this .

Very, very beautiful. I say that with much envy.

Hi Everyone, Here is my first knife of the year, as I only make a few each year. This is a first for me ,it is a two bladed Hunter in the smaller 4 inch version an in Stailized Box Elder wood. the steel is CPM-154 Heat treated to a final 60 -61 rc. The blades are close to 2 7/8” long an open is 7 1/4” an closed length is 4”. Blades are flush in all three positions. All comments good or bad are welcome. More details are in the for sale section of knifemakers folder area. This knife has a fine satin finnish with 6000 grit hand sanded bolsters and inside back spring. Thanks for looking. Joe.

Again, Joe, a work of art. Useful art at that. 4" closed length is my favorite, they carry well.

Thank you NE for the compliment, yes, took lots of work to make that one. I went to slip joints the following year and that is what I do once in a while here on the Forums. Cheers my friend !!

Well , thank you John, and like the old Guild members used to say ,when you reach the 200 knife, then you are a knife maker, Thanks Tony & Resse I made the 200 a while back. Thanks to them an to all who bought an supporting me an the knives I made. God Is great.

You are an artist, Joe, for sure and for certain. What is not to love about your latest creation?

10 out of 10 I'd say, yes sir, very well done.

Well I’m not to happy with the small scale pins not being completely rounded ,I could go back an sand more off both sides ( I took it back an sanded down the scales till the pins show round ) an try an get down more into the wood , didn’t notice them until my camera showed them to me. So I’m still comtemplating what to do about them. Thanks for your Very Kind comments .577NE.
