June 2008 San Jose "Chop Fest"

Awesome pics!

So, was there a clear winner as far as the knives go??? How about some performance reports?

justabuyer, what happened to your wrist?

damn it, now I gotta go hunt down some watermelon. for eating, not chopping.

My God that is horrible! I didn't realize the extent of the injury. With just the gauze wrap it didn't look all that bad.

LOL! yeah it will probably leave a mark. But lets not get off topic. I am fine and todays AWESOME chop in is the story of the day. WOOT!

After reading the other thread about the Battle Mistress that bit it's owner, I have to say that our chopping went very well and with one exception we always used a lanyard during chopping. Unless something happened after I left, there were no injuries, a perfect safety record.

The lanyards really worked well to reinforce our grip on the knife and did prevent one from getting away. I think I will continue to use lanyards for any future chopping.

I can't wait to see some of the other pictures that I saw on camera LCD screens, there are some that are shocking. Ted also took some beauty shots of my Ban'd Cutter that I would love to share. Thanks Ted.

Solstice got a tiny nick. Handling the knives though, not during the chopping. BAN and Norcal deserve a lot of credit for building a sturdy SAFE chopping table and enforcing the lanyard rule. I KNOW I had one glancing blow that might have caused me to loose the knife with out the lanyard. Tremendous torque from the twisting blade.

Safety first cuz man these things will bite you!

This was a awesome event. We had a real blast. Can't wait for the rest of the pics. And the videos that norcal shot after most everyone left. We did tons of bottle chopping, 2X4chopping, and Rope Cutting. Norcal later flew through a 2X4 in 6 seconds with a CGFBM that I convexed in one of the videos.

Thanks for the awesome photos Ken!

Frogfish,
If you are reading this....I REALLY REALLY apologize about forgetting to call you. On the way way to the shop I was preoccupied and worried about guys getting lost to the shop. When we got to the shop I was busy ripping the 2X8s and 2X12s into 2X4. When the action started all hell broke loose. You had the shop address and my phone number right? I am really sorry man!!! I feel so bad right now :(

That was so stinking cool. I am glad there was some one there with Skills with a camera (you know chicks love guys with skills, bo skills, nunchuck skills, camera skills too).

I wish I had been able to just take off and attend (WA to CA is a bit of a trip). Looks like fun times had by all.

Really nice representation of blades (both infi and non). I noticed some great Kosters, and I think I saw some one's small Bailey Halibut hiding in the pack too (just missed another on on the makers for sale).

That photo montage really made my night. Thanks Lunde.

Man this is a bitter-sweet thread. I so wanted to be there. I just got in from buying supplies and now have to load our van up so we can head out early tomorrow morning.

Great pics guys. Looks like lots of fun. So were there any records broken or any surprise performing knives?

That looks one hell of a time you had there.

On a personal note was good to see the smatchet, been toying with the idea of getting one and this just made my mind up to pull the trigger on one.

It's actually the BRKT Clax. If you'll notice I cracked the supporting 2x4 also.

The surprise performance was the wood. Some people compared it to concrete.

I was surprised with the durability of Ban's satin finish on my knives, my Ban'd Cutter didn't get a scratch going through a couple tough 2x4s.

There is a picture that tells my AK's story, I'll wait for that to be posted before I elaborate.

The Chopweiler seemed to chop better than the SARscuatch but we didn't have a real back to back test.

Actually, you broke the darn thing !!!! Nate and I had to replace the supporting 2X4 and reinforced the supporting legs after you were done

Where are the rest of the action photos? I did more chopping with that AK afterwards and it flew through the 2X4 in less than 10 seconds with approximately 8 chops. I don't know what took me so long the first time. Check out the videos later and you'll be surprised how well that Convexed AK performed. Too bad I did not get a chance to try that Northwind for comparison. I will most likely put my money on the AK47 though ;)
